This weekend marked the final day of the 2022/23 English Premier League campaign and we picked our top three moments.
Who ended up qualifying for Europe and getting relegated was decided on the last game, which made for one of the most dramatic ends to a season in years.
There are still several cup finals across Europe to be played this season, such as the FA Cup Final, why not make matters more exciting at Bet9ja with more than 200 markets to check out for each clash!
Everton survive
Everton had another tough season in the Premier League, and they managed to escape relegation to the EFL Championship by just two points after beating Bournemouth on the final day.
Sean Dyche was appointed as Everton boss whilst the Toffees were in the relegation zone, and he kicked things off with an important win against Arsenal, which sparked a revival at Goodison Park.
The Toffees knew that if they won on the final day then they would be safe, but a draw or defeat and a Leicester win, would mean playing Championship football next term. A goal by Abdoulaye Doucoure was enough to secure survival.
Leicester close but not close enough
It was too little too late for Leicester City as they performed well and beat West Ham 2-1 but they still managed to get relegated out of the top flight
On paper, it could be argued that the Foxes have far too much quality to be near the rear end of the table – the fact they are the most expensive team ever to be relegated backs it up – so they might see some big names such as Harvey Barnes and James Maddison leave the club in the summer.
Close call for Spurs
Tottenham Hotspur have had a mixed bag in terms of results this term, but they impressively beat Leeds United 4-1 away from home on the final day.
There are question marks over Harry Kane’s future at Spurs with several big clubs interested in England’s captain, and it would be a serious worry for the faithful if they were to lose their all time record goal scorer.
Spurs finished eighth in the Premier League, meaning that they have no European football to contend with for next season, which could be something playing on Kane’s mind as to whether he remains at the club next season.
