Tottenham Sack Thomas Frank

Tottenham Hotspur have sacked head coach Thomas Frank following a disastrous run of results that has left the club hovering just above the relegation zone.

Spurs are currently 16th in the Premier League and without a win in their last eight league matches. They have picked up just two victories from their last 17 top-flight games and sit five points above the bottom three. Frank’s final match in charge was Tuesday’s 2-1 home defeat to Newcastle United.

The Dane only arrived in June on a three-year contract, replacing the sacked Ange Postecoglou. While there was slight early optimism, Spurs won just six of their opening 16 league fixtures and never built consistent momentum. Heavy defeats to rivals Arsenal and Fulham in November set the tone for a campaign that quickly spiralled.

A poor start to 2026 compounded the pressure. Draws against Brentford and Sunderland were followed by losses to Bournemouth and West Ham, as well as FA Cup elimination at the hands of Aston Villa. Supporter frustration grew louder in recent weeks, with Frank jeered after successive setbacks.

Despite struggles domestically, Spurs did manage to finish fourth in the Champions League league phase under Frank, advancing to the last-16 stage. However, that European progress was not enough to offset their alarming league position.

Frank previously built a strong reputation at Brentford, guiding them to promotion and establishing the club in the Premier League across four seasons. Tottenham paid significant compensation to bring him across London last summer, but the move ultimately failed to deliver the turnaround the club hoped for.

Spurs are now working through contingency plans as they search for their next head coach, with the immediate priority clear – stabilise results and steer clear of a relegation battle that few predicted at the start of the season.
