Club football is back; for the next four months, we need not worry about the needless distractions of International football. Last time out Belgium and Equatorial Guinea were the unfortunate lot to put pay to our 15 odds ticket.
This week, the focus will be on the value inherent in player stats. From shots to shots on target to cards and goalscorers, there’s so much value everywhere you look.
This week; we start in Ligue 1; where Bradley Barcola leads in both goals scored and shots; as PSG continues life after Kylian Mbappe with no qualms. Barcola has hit 10 goals from 11 games this season averaging 4 shots a game and 2 shots on target per game. This puts him at the top of my list for consideration in the shots and shots on target sweepstakes. Another major consideration is Mason Greenwood; who has 8 Ligue One goals with 30 shots so far this season; averaging 2.9 shots and 1.3 shots on target per game.
Barcola’s teammate Ousmane Dembele has accounted for 32 shots in total; averaging 4.7 shots per game and 2.5 on target. PSG take on Toulouse this weekend; who are in 10th place; so ideally PSG should have a field day attacking the visitors; so Barcola and Dembele have to be on your bet slips for shots and shots on target.
In Germany; Victor Boniface has hit the most shots in the Bundesliga with 40 shots so far; averaging 5.41 shots a game and 1.91 shots on target per game. Omar Marmoush interests me in Germany; he is having a season of a lifetime and performing across all metrics. With 39 shots hit so far; he averages 4.21 shots and 2.16 shots on target; he has also scored in his last 4 games. Of course, there are the usual suspects; from Harry Kane (37 shots); Denis Undav (32 shots), and Florian Wrtiz (30) to put into consideration.
Robert Lewandowski continues to lead the way in Spain; it doesn’t look like anyone would catch him in the Pichichi race. He however is behind Kylian Mbappe on total shots taken so far this season as the Frenchman looks to stamp his authority in La Liga. Mbappe averages 4.71 shots per game and 2.02 shots on target; his teammate Vini Junior is currently on 35 shots this season; averaging 3.22 shots per game. Sevilla’s Dodi Lukebakio is one I think we should keep a close eye on as he averages 3.18 shots per game and 1.15 shots on target.
The Serie A offers interesting value with none of the more prominent forwards leading the shots production line. You have the likes of Lazio’s Valentin Castellanos, with 44 shots and an average of 4.4 shots per game. A surprise volume shot creator is Nikola Krstovic of Lecce, leading the way with 52 shots so far this season and averaging 4.47 shots per game. His Lecce side visits Venezia this weekend, and he will definitely be on my bet slip.
Erling Haaland continues to set the tone in the English Premier League with 12 goals; with a three-way tie in the race to catch him; led by Mohammed Salah, a resurgent Chris Woods, and Brian Mbeumo all on 8 goals. On the shots volume stakes; Antoine Semenyo is only second to top scorer, Haaland with 47 shots this season, averaging 4.37 shots per game. Eberechi Eze ranks highly with his shots volume with 37 shots averaging 4 per game; Palace visit to Villa this weekend; he should be able to deliver at least a shot on target in the game.
