In what is likely a big setback for Chelsea, Victor Osimhen is about to sign a new deal with Napoli.
It was respected mega-journalist Fabrizio Romano who first spilled the beans on Twitter. The new contract could include a whopping €130 million release clause, a major blow for Chelsea, who were eyeing Osimhen as their main striker transfer target.
Napoli and Osimhen have reportedly agreed in principle on the contract extension. Although Osimhen’s current deal goes until the end of next season, the new one could stretch to 2026, featuring a release clause that Chelsea hoped to avoid.
Osimhen has been in top form recently, scoring six goals in 11 Serie A games this season, making him even more valuable. The potential €130 million release clause, reported by Romano, complicates Chelsea’s plans to sign him in January, as previously rumored.
Osimhen joined Napoli in 2020 for a significant fee of €70 million plus add-ons from Lille. If the release clause is triggered, Napoli stands to make a major profit. Despite an inevitable big move in the future, Osimhen aims to keep scoring for Napoli. However, with Chelsea’s history of winter spending, a substantial bid in January is still a possibility, adding suspense to the ongoing transfer saga.
