Brazilian football witnessed extraordinary scenes during the Campeonato Mineiro final as the derby between Cruzeiro and Atlético Mineiro descended into chaos.
With Cruzeiro leading 1-0 deep into stoppage time, tensions exploded after Atlético goalkeeper Everson clashed with Cruzeiro midfielder Christian following a loose ball in the box. What began as a heated confrontation quickly spiralled into a mass brawl involving players from both teams, substitutes and members of the coaching staff.
Punches, pushes and confrontations broke out across the pitch as security and staff struggled to regain control.
In the aftermath, the referee handed out an astonishing 23 red cards, the most ever recorded in Brazilian football. Twelve players from Cruzeiro and eleven from Atlético Mineiro were dismissed following the incident.
