When Can Liverpool Win the EPL Title?

It’s not really a question of if — only when.

Arne Slot’s Liverpool side are marching towards the English Premier League title, with just nine games standing between them and a record-equalling 20th English top-flight crown. After a season of relentless consistency, Liverpool now sit 12 points clear at the summit. Arsenal remain in distant pursuit, but the gap is widening – and time is running out.

With the Merseyside derby returning to Anfield on Wednesday night and a full April schedule ahead, here’s a look at how soon Liverpool can mathematically wrap up the title, and which teams might be left clapping them onto the pitch.

How Many Points Do Liverpool Need?

Liverpool currently have 70 points from 29 matches. Arsenal, in second place, can reach a maximum of 85 points — assuming they win all of their remaining games. That means Slot’s side need 86 points to be uncatchable.

In simple terms: five wins and a draw from their last nine games would guarantee the title, regardless of what Arsenal do.

That said, due to Liverpool’s superior goal difference (+42 compared to Arsenal’s +29), even four wins and a draw could be enough in practice — especially if they beat Arsenal when the two sides meet on May 10.

What’s the Earliest Liverpool Could Win the Title?

Technically, the Reds could clinch it as early as April 13, at home to West Ham.

But for that to happen, Arsenal would need to lose their next three games — against Fulham, Everton and Brentford — while Liverpool beat Everton and Fulham in the same stretch. That would leave Liverpool needing just a point at Anfield against the Hammers to confirm the title.

It’s unlikely, but not impossible.

The More Likely Scenario

If Arsenal keep pace and match Liverpool’s results between now and early May, the title could be won at Stamford Bridge on May 4. That’s Liverpool’s sixth-last game, and a draw or win there could seal it — especially if the Gunners drop points elsewhere.

Should Arsenal’s inconsistency continue — and they’ve already lost at home to West Ham and failed to win four of their last seven — then Liverpool could wrap it up even earlier, perhaps in front of their home crowd against Tottenham on April 27.

Either way, Liverpool fans will be hoping the job is done before Arsenal visit Anfield on May 10. The last thing Mikel Arteta’s side want is a repeat of 2020, when they were forced to give Liverpool a guard of honour after being beaten to the title.

Trophy Presentation & Parade Plans

If Liverpool do secure the title before the final day, they’ll officially lift the trophy on May 25 at Anfield against Crystal Palace. That will be a historic moment – the first time Liverpool fans get to witness their team lift the Premier League trophy in person after the 2019/20 title was won behind closed doors due to the pandemic.

While not confirmed, plans for an open-top bus parade are expected to be in motion, with the likely date being Monday, May 26, or the following weekend.

Could Liverpool Collapse?

Highly unlikely. Liverpool’s lowest nine-game points haul this season was 19. They’re currently averaging 2.41 points per game, and with only the Premier League to focus on, they have both the depth and schedule to stay fresh.

Opta gives them a 99.2% chance of winning the title. Arsenal? Just 0.8%.

The Final Stretch

Whatever the exact date, one thing is clear: this is Arne Slot’s title to lose. And with every passing week, Liverpool edge closer to a moment of history — and a chance to finally celebrate a Premier League triumph with the Anfield faithful.

It’s no longer a race — it’s a countdown.
