Who Can Qualify In Today’s UEFA Europa League Matchday 7?

Matchday seven of the Europa League league phase promises a thrilling evening of football as teams complete for a coveted spot in the knockout rounds. With the penultimate fixtures set to get underway, the picture of qualification is starting to take shape, but plenty is still on the line.

Some clubs are on the brink of achieving their place in either the top eight or top 24, while others face must-win scenarios to keep their hopes of reaching the knockout rounds alive.

We dive into some of the qualification scenarios and examine who can secure progression and other potential permutations:

Who can secure top eight finishes?

Lazio, Athletic Club, Anderlecht, Lyon, Galatasaray, Eintracht Frankfurt and Manchester United have all secured their place in the knockout rounds of the competition, but victories on Thursday could see some of these teams ensure their place directly in the last 16.

Lazio and Athletic Club, facing up against Real Sociedad and Besiktas respectively, could move to 19 points with victories in their games, a points total that would secure their place in the top eight of the table.

Anderlecht could also confirm their place in the top eight places with a victory against Viktoria Plzen, with a potential points tally of 17 likely to be enough to secure their position depending on results elsewhere.

Meanwhile, Lyon, Frankfurt and Manchester United could also confirm their places in the top eight depending on results in other matches across the continent.

Who can qualify for the play-offs?

Towards the bottom of the standings, just two points separate 27th-placed Maccabi Tel Aviv, sitting on six points, and 18th-placed Porto, sitting on eight points, meaning a number of teams are still fighting for a place in the top 24.

Elsewhere, Viktoria Plzen, Ferencvaros, Olympiacos, Roma, Bodo/Glimt, Real Sociedad, Ajax, FCSB, Tottenham and Rangers could all confirm their place in the top 24 – with some also able to continue their fight for a top eight spot – with a victory enough to ensure their position in the knockout rounds.

Slavia Praha, Twente and Malmo are all sitting on four points respectively, leaving them still in with a chance of getting a place in the top 24 with three teams between 22nd and 24th currently on seven points. However, victories in each of their last two matches are likely to be required if they are to secure a top 24 position.
