Who Did Nigeria Draw? Everything You Need To Know About Afcon 2025

The Final Draw for the CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Morocco 2025 was concluded following a star-studded ceremony at the Mohammed V National Theatre in Rabat on Monday.

The teams were drawn into six groups each containing four sides ahead of the 21 December 2025 to 18 January 2026 finals tournament that will be spread across six host cities and nine stadiums in Morocco.

The top two teams in each pool will advance to the round of 16, along with the four best Third-placed sides.

The draw, which was broadcast in over 90 countries worldwide, was conducted by African legends Serge Aurier, Aliou Cissé, Joseph Yobo and Mustapha Hadji.

Nigeria were drawn in Group C  and will lock horns with Tunisia and the East African duo of Uganda and Tanzania.

Ahead of the tournament, Nigeria have appointed former Mali national team manager Eric Chelle as the new head coach of the Super Eagles.

He will take over from Augustine Eguavoen, who was in interim charge of the Super Eagles during their successful qualifying campaign for the Africa Cup of Nations.

Chelle’s debut as Nigeria’s head coach will come in March when the Super Eagles face Rwanda and Zimbabwe in the next round of World Cup qualifiers.

Despite qualifying for AFCON 2025, Nigeria currently risk missing out on the 2026 World Cup, set to be co-hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada, following a disappointing start to their qualifying campaign.

After four matches, the 2013 African champions sit in fifth place with just three points, four points behind leaders Rwanda, with six games left to play in the qualifying series.

Having missed the 2022 World Cup in Qatar after a play-off defeat to eternal rivals Ghana, the Nigerian team aims for a return to the global stage, seeking to improve on their round-of-16 finishes at USA ’94, France ’98, and Brazil 2014.
