Kylian Mbappe signed for Real Madrid on a free transfer in the summer from Paris Saint-Germain, in what was the one of the most exciting transfers in recent times.
Here we take a look at how the Frenchman has performed so far and whether he will fulfil his potential for his new club.
Record so far
There has been slight concerns over the current performances from Mbappe, after his highly anticipated switch to the club this summer.
However, the 25-year-old has chipped in with seven goal contributions – six goals – in 10 La Liga games so far.
But this is deemed as below par by many of his critics and the stats back that up. He has scored six goals from 47 shots which is a conversion rate of 12.8% – the 81st highest in La Liga. His xG performance is -1.56 which ranks 157th, proving how many big chances Mbappe is missing and how he is performing well below expectations.
New surroundings
Joining Madrid might not be as easy as it seems, because of the calibre and expeditions at the club, you simply have to hit the great running otherwise the fans will turn against you.
Gareth Bale is a prime example of this, after he performed well and contributed massively but was still categorised as a villain by the Madrid faithful.
PSG form
Mbappe featured 308 times for PSG during his time at the club, and he netted a whopping 256 times and chipped in with 108 assists.
Albeit La Liga is a step up from Ligue 1, and even for the world’s best it is not going to be an instant click at a new club, with new players and new surroundings.
Our say
We predict that it will not take long before we see the best of Mbappe in a Madrid shirt, as he has already had a half-decent start and looking at his form on the world stage previously.
Once the attacker gels with world class talent at the club such as Jude Bellingham and Vinicius Jnr, there is no doubt that Mbappe will kick on and reach the heights expected of him. However, with the 4-0 home defeat to Barcelona fresh in the memory of the supporters, he will need to up his scoring game in order to get himself on side with the fans.
