Wolverhampton Wanderers will face Northern Irish side Crusaders in the second round qualifying of the Europa League tonight, as they begin their first campaign in competitive European football for 39 years.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side finished seventh in their first season back in the Premier League and were handed a place in the Europa League when Manchester City claimed the Premier League title and the FA Cup last season, ensuring the seventh placed team qualified for European action.
Although this is their first continental campaign for almost four decades, Wolves are no strangers to European football as, back in the 1970s, solid Division One performances and a League Cup success saw them appear no less than three times in the UEFA Cup, while title wins in 1954, 1958 and 1959 secured them a place in the European Cup.
