Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League matches see a lot of intriguing and exciting fixtures involving some of the best teams across Europe. The standout games both take place in this seasons ‘group of death’ where PSG face AC Milan and Newcastle host Borussia Dortmund at St James’ Park.
With so many games taking place, we’ve picked out our five top tips for Wednesday’s games:
Kylian Mbappe to score anytime, 2.20 (at time of writing)
Kylian Mbappe and PSG will be on the hunt to right their wrongs from their last outing in the Champions League as they succumbed to a 4-1 defeat to Newcastle United. PSG have run rampant in their two Ligue 1 games since that defeat, scoring three goals in both of these with Kylian Mbappe scoring and assisting in the most recent of the two. Mbappe has also hit form again since the game against Newcastle, with four goals and two assists in his last three games.
With this, we can see Mbappe scoring again for PSG as they look for redemption against AC Milan.
Newcastle United to win, 1.62
Newcastle United vs Borussia Dortmund
Newcastle have made St James’ Park a fortress in recent years and this has certainly carried into this season. The Magpies have lost one of their seven home games so far this season, scoring 18 and conceding just four, showing how strong they are at home. With the crowd playing a huge part in how Newcastle are able to suffocate teams at St James’ Park, we expect they will be rightfully up for this game just as they were for their impressive 4-1 win over PSG in their last Champions League fixture.
Feyenoord to win, 1.90
Feyenoord have had an imposing start to their campaign as the Dutch side have lost just twice across all competitions, which includes a narrow 3-2 loss to Atletico Madrid in their last Champions League game despite a dominant performance which saw them put up 2.46xG to Atletico’s 0.84xG. This, combined with Lazio’s poor start to the season where they have won as many as they have lost in the Serie A, has lead us to believe Feyenoord will run out victorious in this game.
Manchester City & over 3.5 goals, 2.09
Manchester City may not have hit the heights so far this season that so many expect from them, with them losing three of their last five games in all competitions. Despite this, they are still clearly one of the best teams in the world and have shown why in the Champions League so far as they have scored three goals in both their opening two games. With Young Boys also struggling to keep the goals out so far, conceding five in their opening two, we can see Manchester City hitting form again in this game and scoring over 3.5 goals.
FC Barcelona to win, 1.19
FC Barcelona vs FC Shakhtar Donetsk
Barcelona have had a fantastic start to their Champions League group stage, scoring six goals and conceding none as they have gone on to win their first two games. This alongside the fact that they are yet to be beaten in any competition so far this season means that we firmly believe that they will end up victorious in this one.
