Victor Ikpeba: The UEFA Champions League draw has thrown the cat among the pigeons!

Last week’s UEFA Champions League Quarter-Final draw has caused a serious shift in predictions for the tournament, with the four top favourites for the competition all on the same side of the draw.

Arsenal drawing German giants Bayern Munich and Real Madrid facing off against Manchester City leaves one of Borussia Dortmund, Paris Saint Germain, Atletico Madrid or Barcelona with a seemingly easier route to the final.

We spoke to former Borussia Dortmund man and Bet9ja Ambassador Victor Ikpeba about the potential consequences of the draw.

There is no such thing as an easy run to the final, but you need some luck along the way!

Look, obviously the UEFA Champions League is always going to be full of top teams at this stage, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t match-ups that you look at hoping you avoid in each round.

Arsenal have been in excellent form since the start of the year and will have loved finally progressing past the last 16 for the first time in 14 years. However, the last team they would have wanted to draw in the next round is Bayern Munich.

They have lost their last three matches against the Germans 5-1, and need to make a statement. I think Arsenal would be odds-on to make the final if they’d been drawn on the other side of the draw, but that’s life.

Atletico Madrid are doing their thing in Europe once again

Despite being off the pace in La Liga, Diego Simeone’s side are always a real test for any team in Europe. Inter Milan have been one of the best sides in Europe this season, but when they came to the Wanda Metropolitano they were up against a side who are used to grinding results out in Europe no matter how ugly the game is.

I think they’ll be a good bet to make it to the final from their side of the draw. They love defending in big games and have the quality up front to cause sides serious problems on the break. You cannot deny their European pedigree and ability as dark horses in this competition!
