5 Strikers Chelsea Need In January

Chelsea have had an extremely poor start to the season as they sit 12th in the English Premier League standings, despite spending more than £1bn in under two years.

Nicolas Jackson signed for the Blues in the summer, but he has failed to hit the ground running and reports suggest that they are in the market for a new goal scorer.

It’s an area Chelsea have struggled the most in, scoring only 26 times in 16 league matches. They will look to strengthen up front in January and here are five firing strikers around Europe that they should target:

Ivan Toney, Brentford

Ivan Toney has reportedly been on the radar of Chelsea over the past 18 months, and after his 20 goals in 33 league games last term, he could be the answer to Mauricio Pochettino’s problems in the second half of the season.

Victor Osimhen, Napoli

Osimhen has established himself as one of the most prolific goal scorers in world football, and although he could cost the Blues upwards of £100m, there are issues in his relationship with Napoli so he might be looking for a new club in January.

Viktor Gyokeres, Sporting Lisbon

Gyokeres has been on fire in Portugal since his summer switch to Sporting. He has scored nine times in 12 league games, 16 in 19 overall including three in the Europa League. His 21 goals last season helped propel Coventry City to the EFL Championship play-off final and his all-round play means he has the attributes to reach the top. At just 25-years-old, he could be a great long term option for Chelsea.

Evan Ferguson, Brighton & Hove Albion

Evan Ferguson has also been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge in January, after his six goals already this season as a teenager has caught the eye, but with the recent success of Brighton, this might be a difficult one to get over the line.

Ollie Watkins, Aston Villa

Ollie Watkins has been a vital part of Aston Villa’s success this season and is on the radar of several clubs such as Chelsea. He has netted eight times in 16 league games so it would have to be a hefty if he was to leave Villa Park in January.
