Nigerian players displayed outstanding form for their respective clubs this weekend in Europe’s top leagues. Despite falling short of success at the recent AFCON by losing in the final to Ivory Coast, the Super Eagles players have resiliently maintained good form for their clubs.
Here are the best goals from the weekend scored by some of The Super Eagles’ best players.
Victor Osimhen
Victor Osimhen once again graced the scoresheet for Serie A side Napoli over the weekend. He found space at the back post and headed home in the 65th minute, giving his team the lead. Although Napoli failed to hold on, conceding an equalizer in the 96th minute against Cagliari, Osimhen continued his impressive form, contributing his 10th goal in 14 league games.
Calvin Bassey
Calvin Bassey secured his first goal of the season in the Premier League for Fulham last weekend, providing his team with the lead against Manchester United in the 65th minute at Old Trafford. The Nigerian defender, positioned in the opposition box, delivered a powerful finish with his weaker right foot, overwhelming Andre Onana in the United net.
Alex Iwobi
Alex Iwobi, the second Fulham and Nigerian player, also found the back of the net over the weekend. Picking up the ball just inside the box, he demonstrated great composure to slot it past the goalkeeper. The midfielder’s crucial goal came in the 97th minute, securing all three points for the Cottagers in an away victory against Manchester United.
