The game started in the worst way possible for the visitors when United opened the scoring, but Rafa Benitez’s side bounced back and were level within five minutes.
Then came the historic moment, Gerrard burst through the United defence in familiar fashion and lured in Patrice Evra who fouled the English midfielder in the penalty area. The Reds skipper then proceeded to finish from the spot and ran to kiss the camera in an iconic celebration.
Gerrard ended up grabbing a brace that day, helping his side win 4-1, which closed the deficit at the top of the table, but the Manchester side did in fact go on to lift the Premier League title come May.
