There were some big moves in the English Premier League this summer, with a record £2.36bn spent on signings
All these new signings has meant we’ve had an interesting start to the Premier League campaign with some big clubs dropping points early on, and a few shock results from sides who might have been tipped to be near the rear end of the table.
With the summer transfer window firmly shut, we take a look at the biggest winners from it.
West Ham United
West Ham United lost their club captain Declan Rice in the summer transfer window, but have invested the money wisely with the likes of James Ward-Prowse and Edson Alvarez coming in and performing well.
After the departure of Rice there was a lot of thought that the Hammers might struggle, but after winning three times and picking up a draw from the opening four games they have certainly silenced the critics.
Aston Villa
Aston Villa had a successful season last campaign when they qualified for Europe and they have invested in the squad this summer by bringing in some top talents in hope that they can kick on from last term.
Moussa Diaby and Pau Torres are the standout names that have been introduced at Villa Park, both players come into the squad with experience in European competitions so they certainly had a positive transfer window.
Brighton & Hove Albion
Brighton & Hove Albion have had one of the best recruitment systems over the past two seasons and despite losing Alexis Mac Allister and Moises Caicedo this summer, they have had a positive start to the season with the new signings.
Highly rated midfielder Carlos Baleba and Barcelona loanee Ansu Fati are still yet to feature for the Seagulls since signing late in the transfer window, but it is positive signs for the club as they look forward to a campaign with UEFA Europa League football in the mix.
Liverpool
After the disappointing season last campaign for Liverpool, Jurgen Klopp opted for a clear out of the squad as he has seen a haul of players leave, but he has evidently made some good additions.
The main additions who have performed well so far for the Reds in their unbeaten start have been Dominik Szoboszlai and Mac Allister in the heart of midfield, both players bringing a new dynamic to what was a somewhat ageing midfield previously. These signings have elevated Liverpool to title challengers once again and you could argue that the Reds have had the best transfer window in terms of incomings this summer.
