The 2023/24 English Premier League season is slowly edging towards its final moments with just five matchdays left.
Throughout this season we have seen hugely entertaining battles at the top of the table, with three teams still currently in the race for the title, and also at the foot of the table with the ongoing relegation fights.
For some of these teams, last year’s summer signings have had a huge impact on their performances, results and where they find themselves in the table. With this, we’re going to be looking at the EPL signings of the season so far:
You can bet on over 200 markets per match in the English Premier League here!
Moussa Diaby – Aston Villa
Moussa Diaby’s signature for Aston Villa came as a huge surprise during the summer window as there had been rumours of the Frenchman making the move to a whole host of top European clubs, including Newcastle United and Arsenal in the Premier League.
Diaby eventually opted for Aston Villa though, and he has been exceptional as he has played a major part in Villa’s climb into the race for UEFA Champions League football. Injuries and rotation have slightly slowed his season down but in his 33 matches, Diaby has scored five and assisted seven. These statistics have massively helped his side push on this season, so we think he has to be mentioned among the top signings.
Mohammed Kudus – West Ham United
Similarly to Diaby’s transfer, Mohammed Kudus’ signing to West Ham United was one very few people would have expected considering his links to sides all across Europe.
Injuries and his involvement in the Africa Cup of Nations have meant Kudus hasn’t been available every week for his side, but his production in the games he has appeared in has been fantastic.
Of the 28 games he has played in the league, he has scored seven goals with four assists in this time. Just over four successful dribbles per 90 leaves Kudus in the top six per cent of dribblers in the league, and this has helped his side become more direct and penetrative on the counterattack, helping them to improve from 14th last season to currently sitting in seventh place.
James Maddison – Tottenham Hotspur
James Maddison made his long-awaited move away from Leicester City last summer after his side were relegated into the EFL Championship. His arrival coincided with a huge change at Tottenham Hotspur as Ange Postecoglou arrived for his first season, while record scorer Harry Kane left the club.
Maddison inherited the number 10 shirt from the departing Kane, and he has done excellently at his new club as they have found themselves back in the race for Champions League football this season.
The midfielder has scored four and assisted seven in his 22 appearances in the league for the club, and has one of the most important roles in allowing Postecoglou’s new system to thrive.
Declan Rice – Arsenal
Arguably the signing of the season is Declan Rice to Arsenal, where the midfielder has not only had brilliant attacking output but also helped solidify Arsenal’s defence.
Rice has played in both the number six and eight roles for Arsenal and performed brilliantly in both, scoring six and assisting four when being given the license to attack but also helping Arsenal to concede a league-low 26 goals this season.
While it is yet to be seen if Arsenal will go on to win the league this time around, if the Gunners are to be successful then Rice is likely to be a huge reason for the triumph.
Cole Palmer – Chelsea
Cole Palmer’s move from Manchester City to Chelsea came as a huge shock to a majority of football fans, especially after he started the season off with City by scoring two in his first three games. However, he was allowed to move to London and he has taken no time in adapting to his new surroundings.
Palmer was instantly given a huge role in this Chelsea team, and he has shown that he is more than good enough to be the main man at a top club. The attacker has scored 20 and assisted nine in the league this season – this leaves Palmer as the league’s joint-top scorer but also Chelsea’s top assister, leaving many wondering where the struggling London club would be without their star man this season.
