Nigerian Transfer Rumours Round-Up: Lookman to Liverpool?

With the summer transfer window already creeping on the horizon, some of Nigeria’s biggest players are dominating the transfer gossip columns. Here’s your full round-up of the latest rumours involving Super Eagles stars.

Ademola Lookman

Lookman is one of the most sought-after attackers in Europe following his incredible run of form with Atalanta. After his stunning hat-trick in last season’s Europa League final and being named 2024 African Player of the Year, the Super Eagles star is attracting serious Premier League interest.

Liverpool and Tottenham are leading the race, reportedly agreeing on a £60 million (96bn NGN) valuation. Arsenal have also been approached by Lookman’s representatives, while Newcastle are monitoring the situation closely. Aston Villa, meanwhile, have been offered the chance to sign the winger and could use funds from Jhon Durán’s recent sale to strengthen their attack.

After falling out with Atalanta boss Gian Piero Gasperini, Lookman is pushing for a return to England. With 17 goals and seven assists already this season and only a year left on his contract, Atalanta are ready to cash in on one of their prize assets.

Victor Osimhen

Victor Osimhen is once again at the centre of a huge transfer saga, with several of Europe’s elite clubs lining up to sign him from Napoli once his loan spell at Galatasaray ends. Paris Saint-Germain are believed to be leading the race, already laying the groundwork for a £63 million (169bn NGN) move as they look for a proper replacement for Kylian Mbappé.

Manchester United and Chelsea remain interested, but with United’s financial limitations and Chelsea needing to balance their squad, a deal won’t be straightforward.

Meanwhile, despite ongoing links to Arsenal, transfer expert Charles Watts has poured cold water on the Gunners’ chances of landing Osimhen. He said:

“I’m always a bit sceptical when I hear of links between Victor Osimhen and Arsenal. There was some interest in him a few years ago, but I’ve not heard anything since then to suggest the constant speculation linking the Nigerian striker with a move to North London has much merit to it.”

For now, PSG appear to be the favourites as they maintain strong relations with Napoli following recent deals for Fabian Ruiz and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia

Moses simon

After six successful years at FC Nantes, Moses Simon could be set for a new challenge. The Super Eagles winger has been linked with a summer move to AS Roma, with reports suggesting the Serie A giants are ready to make their move.

Simon, now 29, has just one year left on his contract and could be available for a reasonable fee. Roma face competition from French sides OGC Nice and Marseille, but Simon is reportedly keen on testing himself in a new league.

Statistictally Ligue 1’s best dribbler, Simon’s speed and creativity would be an exciting addition to Roma’s attack.

Bright Osayi-Samuel

Bright Osayi-Samuel looks set to leave Fenerbahçe on a free transfer this summer, with Premier League clubs already lining up to bring him back to England.

Contract talks with Fenerbahçe have broken down over salary disagreements, and now Nottingham Forest and Crystal Palace are leading the race for his signature.

Forest are reportedly preparing a pre-contract agreement for the Super Eagles full-back as they look to strengthen their defence ahead of a potential European campaign next season. While Ola Aina remains at the club, there have been rumours circulating of potential interest from Man City, which could leave Forest needing a replacement.

Crystal Palace are also pushing hard, having reportedly tabled a four-year contract worth £3.8 million (7bn NGN) per season, and talks with the London club are said to be progressing positively.

The 27-year-old Osayi-Samuel is believed to be keen on a return to England, having previously played for QPR and Blackpool before his spell in Turkey.
