Matchday four of the 2023/24 English Premier League produced some exciting moments with plenty of goals and shock results.
With Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City both scoring five goals and a shock defeat for Chelsea, this weekend certainly had it all.
Here’s the top four talking points from the last Premier League weekend before the international break.
Newcastle lose again
Newcastle United have now lost three games on the bounce in the Premier League after they suffered a 3-1 loss away from home against Brighton & Hove Albion, with wonderkid Evan Ferguson scoring a hat-trick.
Although the Magpies qualified for the UEFA Champions League last term, they have not started the 2023/24 campaign in the best way after picking up just three points from a possible 12 in the opening four games. And being drawn in a group with PSG, Borussia Dortmund and AC Milan, means the season doesn’t look any easier for Newcastle this time around.
Late Arsenal victory
Arsenal remain unbeaten with four games played in the top flight, after late drama meant they ended up beating Manchester United 3-1 thanks to goals from Declan Rice and Gabriel Jesus in the dying embers.
The Gunners were certainly not at their best against United and the game could have had a different ending, but it is a positive sign that they are still picking up points without performing at the heights that the faithful know they can reach. These types of victories will continue to send a message to Manchester City.
Offside goal against Fulham
Fulham thought they were heading into half-time with the score all squared at 1-1, but a controversial offside goal from Manchester City meant that they found themselves a goal down at the break.
There has been a lot of speculation online after the game suggesting that there was a clear offside in the lead up, and the goal completely changed the game after City ended up winning 5-1 thanks to an Erling Haaland penalty.
Maddison and Son look dangerous
Tottenham Hotspur found themselves a goal down after just four minutes played against Burnley, but an offensive masterclass from there on in with James Maddison and Son Heung-min at the heart of it, meant that they comfortably won 5-2.
Son ended up getting a hat-trick and Maddison found the back of the net with a great finish whilst being heavily involved in the other goals, so life seems to be positive without Harry Kane for the North London club, and the transformation under Ange Postecoglou continues.
