As the 2024/25 football season reaches its first international break, the spotlight shifts from domestic leagues to the wide variety of competitions that will take place across the globe.
One of these competitions is the UEFA Nations League, which is set to kick off on Thursday. With teams across Europe competing in the latest edition of the tournament, fans and players alike will be eager to see how their national teams perform.
In this article, we’re going to take a closer look at a selection of these Nations League matches and pick our out top tips and best booking code: (all odds at time of writing)
Portugal vs Croatia
Neither of these two sides were at their best when they last competed at Euro 2024 with Portugal crashing out in the quarter-finals and Croatia disappointingly going out in the group stage.
Both teams will be out to pick up a win in their first game back since their underwhelming exits from the summer’s tournament. Portugal will be the favourites coming into this game and the narrative also surrounds Cristiano Ronaldo who is on 899 career goals. He is priced up at odds of 2.00 to score anytime and net his 900th goal in a legendary career.
Cristiano Ronaldo to score anytime, 2.00
Serbia vs Spain
The 2024 European Championship winners Spain will take on Serbia in their first game since narrowly beating England in the final, and they will be looking to extend their unbeaten record across all competitions to 11 matches.
Serbia had a dismal Euro 2024, failing to record a win from their three group stage matches, two draws and a defeat, resulting in them making an exit from the group stage.
The reigning Euro winners will, therefore, be strong favourites to win this game, and we expect them to do just that.
Spain to win, 1.55
Denmark vs Switzerland
While Denmark had a rather underwhelming Euro 2024, narrowly progressing out of the group with three draws from all of their matches before losing 2-0 to Germany in the round of 16, Switzerland had a number of strong performances.
They progressed out of their group unbeaten from all three games, two draws and one win, before comfortably beating Italy in the round of 16 in a fantastic performance. They were then unlucky to exit against England on penalties after a strong performance in the quarter-finals.
That impressive form throughout the Euros, compared to Denmark’s poor showing, makes us believe the visitors will win on Thursday.
Switzerland to win, 3.15
Scotland vs Poland
Both of these sides had a dreadful time in the summer’s tournament, each making group-stage exits after failing to win any of their three fixtures.
Scotland suffered a 5-1 defeat to Germany on the opening day of the tournament before drawing to Switzerland to give them hope of qualifying for the knockout stage on the final day of the group. However, a dismal 1-0 defeat to Hungary consigned them to an exit from the group stages.
Despite also failing to win any of their three group matches, Poland had an extremely difficult group that saw them lose to Netherlands and Austria and draw with France on the final day.
With an attack that has Robert Lewandowski, who has already scored four goals in four games this season, Poland can be a threat to anyone, and we expect the veteran striker to help get his side over the line with a win here, with plenty of goals scored.
Poland to win & over 2.5 goals, 5.70
