This year’s UEFA Europa League quarter-finals see some of the biggest sides around Europe taking part.
Two of the most successful teams in European history find themselves trailing in their ties with Liverpool amazingly losing 3-0 to Atalanta at Anfield, while Milan fell to a 1-0 loss to Roma at the San Siro.
While these may be the standout ties, the remaining two are nothing to turn your nose up at as Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen travel to face West Ham and Marseille host Benfica.
These fixtures are sure to provide plenty of action, and we’ve picked out our top tips for the upcoming games:
Roma vs Milan
Milan may be trailing 1-0 from the first leg, but a dominant performance will give them the confidence they need to turn the tie in their favour. They had 25 shots to Roma’s 10, producing 1.61xG to Roma’s 0.62.
While Roma have the home advantage in this one, Milan have only lost five times away from home this season and have already beaten Roma at the Stadio Olimpico 2-1 earlier this season.
With this, we believe that Milan will be the dominant side once again here and make the most of their chances, going on to win and qualify for the next round.
Milan to qualify, 3.05
Atalanta vs Liverpool
Atalanta produced the biggest shock result of any across all three European competitions last week when they beat Liverpool 3-0 at Anfield, leaving them in a fantastic position to beat the competition’s favourites and progress into the semi-finals.
While Liverpool were wasteful with their chances, failing to score from 2.60xG, Atalanta were very clinical as they scored three from 3.22Xg. This largely came from quick counterattacks that caught Liverpool lacking defensively, and with the Reds now trailing by three goals they will have to be even more offensive in this one.
Because of this, we believe Atalanta will be able to catch Liverpool on the counter throughout this game and we think they will be able to capitalise on this and earn their progression into the next round.
Atalanta to qualify, 1.16
West Ham vs Bayer Leverkusen
Florian Wirtz has been absolutely sensational for Bayer Leverkusen this season, playing an instrumental role in securing his side’s first-ever Bundesliga title.
In 41 appearances, the most he has ever made in a season, Wirtz has contributed a phenomenal 35 goals, scoring 17 and assisting 17. The highlight of his fantastic season came over the weekend when he scored his first senior career hattrick in a 5-0 win that confirmed Bayer Leverkusen’s status as Bundesliga champions.
With this, Wirtz comes into this one with six goals in his last four appearances, and we believe he will continue with his fantastic form with yet another goal in this one.
Florian Wirtz to score anytime, 3.85
Marseille vs Benfica
Another player who is having a great goalscoring season is veteran Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who simply can’t stop scoring in this competition.
Aubameyang has already beaten the record for the most goals ever in the Europa League this season, and he extended his record with yet another in Marseille’s eventual 2-1 loss to Benfica in the first leg, his 10th in this season’s Europa League.
This loss will leave Marseille needing goals to get back in the game, and there is no one better for the job in this competition’s history than Aubameyang. With this, we fancy the striker to get on the scoresheet.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to score anytime, 2.25
