Viktor Gyokeres has been in inspired form this season for Sporting CP, where he has been the standout player in both domestic and European competitions for his side.
Here we take a look at five reasons why the Swedish forward is currently the best in his position in Europe.
Stats this season
Gyokeres has started this 2024/25 campaign in emphatic form, scoring 16 times already in Liga Portugal, in just 11 matches.
The Swedish striker has also notched six goal contributions already in the UEFA Champions League, in just five appearances against some of the worlds best. He is the competitions joint-top scorer in 2024/25 with five goals. In all competitions, he’s scored 23 in 18 matches for Sporting.
Performances at the high level
The 26-year-old has proven that he can influence games at the highest level in the Champions League, which is something not many strikers can do consistently.
Gyokeres was the star of the show when Sporting impressively beat Manchester City 4-1, as he netted a hat-trick and received the Man of the Natch award.
Drop off from world’s best
It’s not only Gyokeres’ stats that are making him the best forward in the world right now, it is also the drop off from other top class talent such as Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland.
The Frenchman has struggled to hit the ground running at Real Madrid and is currently four games without a goal and Haaland has netted just twice in his last five league games.
Consistency
In his final season with Coventry, Gyokeres notched 33 goal contributions in the Championship, but there were question marks as to whether he could do it consistently in the upcoming years.
Since then, Gyokeres has chipped in with 58 goal contributions in the 2023/24 campaign and now 27 contributions in 18 games this term, so any question marks over his consistency have now gone. In his last 165 club appearances, he’s scored a staggering 106 goals showing how he can do it longer term and is clearly ready for the next step.
Well rounded game
Over the past three seasons, Gyokeres’ goal scoring record has been phenomenal, but he has also proven that he can link-up play to an extremely high standard and chip in with assists. His physicality, pace, first touch, vision and ability to run the channels and get the ball played to feet, gives him all the attributes as one of the best in Europe. Aside from the goals, he’s the most complete forward around right now.
The man in form notched an impressive 15 assists last term in all competitions, which is something that not many goal scorers in today’s game can provide.
With the likes of Man Utd, Man City, Chelsea and Arsenal all chasing his signature, it will only be a matter of time that Europe’s top scorer in 2024 makes a move to a top English Premier League side.
Bet on Gyokeres to score in his next match right here!
