The 2024/25 campaign is just around the corner, with plenty of Nigeria’s biggest stars looking to impress once again.
Pre-season is a great chance for players to get up to full fitness and impress their managers ahead of the new season, and some of Nigeria’s finest are doing just that.
Some of the Super Eagles national team have been in fine form this pre-season which is great news as they hunt for World Cup 2026 qualification later this year.
Here’s a look at how some of Nigeria’s biggest stars are getting on throughout pre-season so far:
Wilfred Ndidi
Wilfred Ndidi put pen to paper on a new deal with Leicester City despite speculation of him leaving the club upon the expiry of his contract.
The Nigerian midfielder has shown promising signs so far in pre-season for the Foxes, where he impressed in a more advanced role against Palermo and displayed some great link-up play with his teammates in the final third, despite Leicester’s 1-0 defeat.
Samuel Chukwueze
AC Milan winger Samuel Chukwueze has impressed so far in pre-season and is on track to have a great season for the Italian giants.
The Nigerian winger is going to be key for the Super Eagles in the upcoming fixtures, and he scored the only goal in a 1-0 victory for Milan over UEFA Champions League winners Real Madrid, earlier this week.
Victor Osimhen
Victor Osimhen is yet to compete in any pre-season fixtures so far for Napoli, as it is evident that he will be parting ways with the club this summer.
Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain are the two main clubs battling it out for the Super Eagles talisman’s signature ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.
Alex Iwobi
Alex Iwobi had a good season last term for Fulham, and he has started pre season with the Whites in good form during their 6-1 victory over EFL Championship outfit Watford.
The Nigerian midfielder chipped in with an assist and got himself on the scoresheet against the Hornets, after he calmly dinked the ball over the keeper into the back of the net.
Terem Moffi
Terem Moffi’s season unfortunately could be over before it has already started, with the Nigerian forward rupturing his ACL in an disastrous training incident.
The 25-year-old netted 20 times for OGC Nice last term, so he will be a major loss for both club and country in the upcoming games.
