The English Premier League table has started to take shape already, with a majority of clubs finding themselves around where they will expect to finish come the end of the season.
This means relegation battles and fights for European places will be starting to take place already, and this weekend’s games sees some of these fixtures occur.
With that in mind, here’s four talking points going into matchday seven:
Early European Contenders?
Aston Villa and Brighton & Hove Albion finished just one point apart last season, with Brighton in sixth and Aston Villa finishing seventh. This has meant both teams are playing European football this season, and both are sure to be on the hunt for it again next season.
With how close these two sides finished last season, this game could end up being a big result come the end of the season in determining who gets what type of European football, if any at all.
Battle of the unbeaten
After having disappointing seasons last season, Liverpool and Tottenham have started this Premier League season in hot form. Neither side have lost a game so far in the Premier League, while both teams attacks have also scored an impressive 15 goals in six games.
Tottenham will come into the game with huge confidence after having gone toe-to-toe with last season’s title challengers Arsenal in a 2-2 draw. While Liverpool won their last game 3-1 against West Ham and will be hoping they can get back to their best and challenging for titles as they have so often done in recent years.
West London derby
Chelsea have had a dismal start to their season with just one Premier League win, against relegation candidates Luton Town, and only scoring five in their six games.
But Mauricio Pochettino will be hoping that a derby day fixture against Fulham, and the EFL Cup win against Brighton, will be able to pump up his players and give their season the kickstart it so badly needs.
Relegation six-pointer?
Everton managed to stay up on the last day of the season last year, with many tipping them as one of the three to go down this time around. The story is much the same for Luton Town with the majority of people thinking they are highly likely to drop back down to the EFL Championship this season.
With these two sides meeting this weekend, it could turn out to be a huge relegation six-pointer come the end of the season and potentially be vital if one of these sides are to avoid the drop.
