4 Clubs Nigeria’s Kelechi Iheanacho Could Join For 2023/24

Nigerian striker Kelechi Iheanacho was one of Leicester City’s few star performers last season, winning Player of the Year for the now-relegated Midlands side.

The 26-year-old Super Eagles star is a proven goalscorer at English Premier League level and won’t want to be spending his prime years playing in the EFL Championship, and plenty of clubs have recognised this.

Here are some of the teams linked with his services this transfer window.

Everton

Sean Dyche’s Everton side pipped Leicester to survival last season and are one of the teams reportedly interested in Iheanacho’s signature. Last season Dominic Calvert Lewin’s fitness issues often left the Toffees short on options up front, with Neal Maupay scoring just once in 27 league appearances in his absence.

Iheanacho would be a fantastic addition for Everton – not only does he have an eye for goal, but he could lead the line on his own or play in a pair with another forward.

Nottingham Forest

Despite the local rivalry between Nottingham Forest and Leicester, Forest look to be in prime position to sign Iheanacho. Already with two Nigerian forwards in Taiwo Awoniyi and Emmanuel Dennis, Iheanacho would likely feel right at home straight away and would be a great fit in behind Awoniyi in Forest’s frontline.

Midfielder Danilo often occupied the role behind the striker for them last season, but would be able to play in his more natural position in central midfield if Iheanacho signed – a move that Steve Cooper likely will have considered.

Galatasaray

Boasting a squad of well-established stars such as Dries Mertens and Mauro Icardi, Turkish giants Galatasaray won the Süper Lig by a margin of eight points last season and qualified for the UEFA Champions League – something that Iheanacho will definitely be interested in.

Galatasaray has been home for Super Eagles stars in the past, with Joseph Yobo, John Utaka and Henry Onyekuru all playing for the Istanbul-based outfit at some point, and they have also been linked with Joe Aribo from Southampton this summer.

Roma

Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma have been linked with Iheanacho in recent weeks after star striker Tammy Abraham suffered a serious knee injury that will see him miss a large part of the 2023/24 season.

Roma have signed many former Premier League stars in recent years, with Chris Smalling, Georginio Wijnaldum and Abraham some of the most recognisable names, so it will be interesting to see if Iheanacho is next on the list.
