Fantasy Premier League Gameweek 2 Update

We are two weeks into the English Premier League season and Fantasy Premier League has seen some of the usual suspects racking up big points, with some surprise packages leading the way after two matches.

Here is what happened last weekend, with a look at the Bet9ja FPL leaderboard where we’re giving away 350,000 NGN in prizes each month, and what you need to know about the upcoming week of fixtures.

Brentford and Bournemouth lead the way

We’d usually expect the likes of Erling Haaland and Mohamed Salah to be at the top of the leaderboards after a couple of gameweeks, but this season has sprung some surprises so far in that aspect.

So far, Brighton winger Solly March is leading the way with a massive 24 points after two games, netting three goals in The Seagulls’ first two games along with three bonus points after his performance at Wolves. Pervis Estupinan and Kaoru Mitoma have also been in goalscoring and assisting form in the first two games

In the absence of Ivan Toney, Brentford forwards Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa have performed brilliantly – scoring five goals between them in two games and taking home 23 and 20 points respectively.

If you haven’t selected any Brentford or Brighton players for your side yet then it’s not too late – the two teams have a relatively easy run of fixtures to start the season.

Maddison is Spurs’ main man

New man James Maddison has been key to Ange Postecoglou’s Spurs team so far this season. After two assists on the opening day against Brentford, the former Leicester man was in great form again as Tottenham outplayed Manchester United on the way to a 2-0 victory.

With Spurs in need of players to step up after Harry Kane’s departure, Maddison could be a clever investment for FPL players.

Manchester United’s defence falters against Spurs

As mentioned in last week’s FPL instalment, despite Manchester United defenders Raphael Varane and Aaron Wan-Bissaka topping the points charts after goal involvements against Wolves, The Red Devils were lucky to not concede after looking shaky defensively all game.

This weakness was exposed against Tottenham Hotspur – Casemiro was left isolated in midfield, with Spurs controlling the game and creating big chances at will.

United have a tough upcoming fixture against in-form Nottingham Forest before a visit to The Emirates at the start of September – if Erik ten Hag fails to reinforce his defence in that time, United defenders could be letting a lot of players down in FPL.
