Liverpool enjoyed a sensational first season under Arne Slot’s management in 2024/25, as the Reds dominated the English Premier League and ended the campaign as worthy champions with a healthy 10-point lead over second-placed Arsenal.
That is a particularly impressive achievement given Slot made just one signing last summer – Federico Chiesa – and the Dutch boss will now be aiming to improve even further and strengthen their grip on the league title with several signings in the summer window.

The Reds have already broken the British transfer record by signing Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen, and several other signings are expected to happen before the beginning of the season.

Potential Line-Up For 2025/26 Season Opener
GK – Alisson Becker
- The Brazilian goalkeeper has consistently proven himself as one of the best goalkeepers in world football since joining Liverpool ahead of the 2018/19 season, and while the Reds have signed Giorgi Mamardashvili to compete with Alisson, the Brazilian should start the season as the number one choice.
RB – Jeremie Frimpong
- The first of the new signings, Frimpong has been brought in to replace the departed Trent Alexander-Arnold, and the Dutch full-back will be required to match the Englishman’s attacking output. That should be no problem for Frimpong, who contributed 14 goals in 48 appearances last season, and his overlapping style should combine brilliantly with Mohamed Salah.
CB – Ibrahima Konate
- As Frimpong races forward to combine with the Egyptian, Konate will continue a familiar role of needing to cover the wide areas in the absence of his attacking full-back, having also done this with Alexander-Arnold in past seasons.
CB – Virgil van Dijk
- Van Dijk is arguably one of the greatest defender in Premier League history, with his dominating presence undoubtedly striking fear into even the greatest attacking opponents, while his pace, strength and ability to read the game is second to none.
LB – Milos Kerkez
- Kerkez is expected to join in the coming days from Bournemouth, and the Hungarian full-back should fill Andrew Robertson’s boots in spectacular fashion. Kerkez is a similar style of player to Robertson, as both are intense pressers and aggressive tacklers, while they also are both capable of a stunning left-footed delivery into the box.
CM – Alexis Mac Allister
- Mac Allister was one of the best central midfielders in the Premier League last season, with his ability to dictate the tempo, play accurate switching passes, win possession back and also join the attack all invaluable qualities to Slot’s system.
CM – Dominik Szoboszlai
- Ryan Gravenberch may be expected to start alongside Mac Allister after recording a sensational 2024/25 campaign, but due to a red card on the final day, Szoboszlai is likely to start here in his absence. The attacking midfielder played in a deeper role toward the end of the last campaign, with Slot believing his passing range and intensity in winning the ball back makes him a superb option in deeper areas.
RW – Mohamed Salah
- Salah is potentially one of the best forwards in Premier League player of all time, consistently managing unbelievable attacking returns, and last season may just have been his best. The Egyptian scored 29 and assisted 18 in 38 league games, and with Frimpong potentially serving as a better partner to allow for Salah to invert closer to the penalty area, Salah will be aiming to improve even further on those monumental numbers.
CAM – Florian Wirtz
- The standout signing of the summer thus far, Wirtz broke the British transfer record to join Liverpool. The German thrives in the pockets between opposition defences and midfield, with his ability to quickly combine with wide players and strikers one of his greatest qualities. With Salah and Cody Gakpo inverting from those wide areas, Wirtz could prove to be one of the most effective players in the Premier League next season if Liverpool can achieve the correct balance.
LW – Cody Gakpo
- Gakpo and Luis Diaz (starting up front in this team) are less rigid in their positions, with the pair able to switch positions freely throughout a game as both are comfortable from left and striking positions. Gakpo is expected to initially start on the left, having done so for much of last term, as the Dutch winger excels at driving down the line and delivering crosses or cutting inside and unleashing fierce shots towards goal.
ST – Luis Diaz
- Diaz has been linked with a move away from Liverpool, but having thrived in the striking position toward the end of last season, the Colombian could start the campaign as the striker once again. Diaz may not be a conventional striker, but the Colombian offers a similar skill set to Liverpool legend Roberto Firmino, as Diaz thrives at dropping deeper and combining with other attacking players before racing into the penalty area.

Other Potential Signings
Liverpool have already confirmed several signings and are on the verge of finalising other deals, but the Reds are also reportedly looking at improving upon multiple other areas in the team.
A striker is supposedly on that list of improvements, with Liverpool most recently linked with Napoli’s Victor Osimhen. At the other end of the pitch, the Reds have been heavily linked with Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi, who could expertly cover for both Van Dijk and Konate on the left and right sides of central defence.
