On Sunday, Manchester United host Manchester City at Old Trafford in the English Premier League in the first Manchester derby of the 2023/24 season.
Manchester United come into the game having scraped past FC Copenhagen with a 1-0 win in the Champions League. A less than convincing performance saw them have to rely on Andre Onana to save a last minute penalty to secure their first three points in the Champions League group stage this season.
Manchester City, on the other hand, put up a stellar performance in their last outing against BSC Young Boys where they ran out 3-1 winners thanks to a goal from Manuel Akanji and two from Erling Haaland.
Manchester United vs Manchester City

Old Trafford
Man United have had a rather inconsistent start to their season, with them winning just one more than they have lost in the league which leaves them in 8th place after nine games. Being the only side in the top half of the league to have conceded more than they have scored tells the story of how dire their performances have been so far this season.
However, having managed to claim victory in their last three games, even if they weren’t the most emphatic of performances, Erik ten Hag will be hoping his side can win this first Manchester derby of the season and use it as a springboard to kickstart their campaign.
Having had to fight off one North London side for the title last season, it looks in this early stage of the season as though Manchester City may have to fight off both North London side’s this season with Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal sitting one place above and below the Citizens.
A rough couple of weeks for Man City saw them lose two consecutive Premier League games for the first time since 2018, but they have won both their games since then. City will be hoping to continue this good run of form against United as they look to reclaim their beloved first place in the Premier League. With Erling Haaland getting back on the scoresheet in recent games, with three goals in his last two outings, Manchester City will likely be confident of grabbing all three points.
