AFCON 2024 has come to a close, with many strong performers from the Super Eagles team.
The Super Eagles made it to the final of the competition, but stumbled at the last hurdle after they lost 2-1 against Ivory Coast with William Troost-Ekong scoring their only goal.
With competition for the next squad hotting up, we take a look at how some of the best Nigerian players are doing that did not quite make it into the final squad for the tournament.
Emmanuel Dennis
Emmanuel Dennis is currently playing his football on loan with Watford in the EFL Championship, where he has played four games and scored once since signing in January, so he could play a crucial role in the remainder of the season for the Hornets.
Taiwo Awoinyi
Awoinyi missed out on AFCON due to injury, but he has been in good form when fit this term for Nottingham Forest, after he has chipped in with seven goal contributions in 13 league games.
The Nigerian forward has proven that he can score goals, netting 10 times in the league last season and could have added a threat if he was fully fit for AFCON.
Nathan Tella
Tella has been impressive for Bayern Leverkusen this term as they sit pretty at the top of the Bundesliga. He has featured 12 times chipping in with five goal contributions and started in the important victory over Bayern Munich at the weekend.
Cyriel Dessers
Dessers was not selected in the Super Eagles squad for AFCON, despite being in fine form for Rangers this term, he has scored 10 times and chipped in with two assists already in 22 league games for the Scottish outfit.
Fisayo Dele-Bashiru
Fisayo Dele-Bashiru has played a vital role for Hatayspor this term in the Super Lig, featuring in 24 out of the 25 league games that his side have played, so might have felt slightly hard done by that he was not selected for his national side at AFCON.
