5 Things to Watch Out for in the EPL This Week

It feels like ages, doesn’t it?

After a two-week international break and an FA Cup weekend that shook things up, it’s finally time to turn our attention back to the English Premier League. The title race and top-four fight are heating up and with a full round of midweek fixtures on the horizon, the drama picks up right where we left off.

From Arsenal’s push to stay in the race, to Spurs’ Stamford Bridge showdown, here are five things to look forward to in the Premier League this week.

Can Postecoglou stop the Stamford Bridge slide?

Ange Postecoglou faces a big test on Thursday as Spurs head to Chelsea – a ground where they’ve only won once in the last 30 years. The Aussie coach has already lost all three of his meetings with the Blues, and no Tottenham manager has ever lost their first four league games against Chelsea. That fate now looms large.

With Spurs drifting in form and short of intensity, Postecoglou needs a result to change the mood. Chelsea have been resurgent at home, winning their last four at Stamford Bridge, while Nicolas Jackson — who has four goals in three games vs Spurs — is set to return. Though Cole Palmer, who scored twice in the reverse fixture is a doubt with injury, which could hand Spurs a slight boost. But even without him, Postecoglou’s side are walking into a tough one. Expect goals, drama, and possibly more pain for Tottenham fans unless something changes.

Can Everton breathe life into Arsenal’s title hopes?

The last ever Merseyside derby at Goodison Park ended in dramatic fashion just last month — a 1-1 draw sealed by a 98th-minute equaliser from James Tarkowski. Now, they head to Anfield looking to do more damage.

Liverpool have looked fatigued of late, and their lead at the top could shrink if Everton — unbeaten in nine league matches — can frustrate them again. The Toffees have nothing to lose, and with Arsenal lurking (with a head-to-head still to come), this could be the result that brings the title race back to life.

Will Arsenal finally beat Fulham?

For whatever reason, Fulham have become a thorn in Arsenal’s side. The Gunners haven’t beaten them in their last three meetings, including a 1-1 draw this season, and a draw and a costly 2-1 defeat on New Year’s Eve last campaign. Mikel Arteta’s side have one clean sheet in their last four at home — so Tuesday’s match at the Emirates is far from straightforward.

That said, Bukayo Saka is back in the squad, and with Real Madrid looming in the Champions League, Arsenal will want rhythm, revenge, and all three points to keep the pressure on Liverpool.

Will Palace’s in-form stars punish the leakiest defence in the league?

Eberechi Eze and Ismaila Sarr are flying right now — and that’s ominous news for Southampton. The Saints have conceded more goals (70), more shots per game (17.9), and the highest xG (2.4) of any Premier League team this season. They are on track to break all the worst defensive records.

Palace have won three on the bounce in the league, are fresh off a 3-0 cup win at Fulham, and look full of confidence. On Saturday they became the first EVER top-flight side to win six consecutive away games across all comps without conceding, and we don’t doubt they’ll make it seven at St Mary’s unless Ivan Juric can find a miracle.

Can Forest keep their Champions League dream alive?

It’s been a magical season for Nottingham Forest — they’re in the FA Cup semi-finals and sit third in the Premier League. But the chase for Champions League football is still tight, and Tuesday’s clash with Manchester United is a big test.

Forest are unbeaten in their last eight at home and beat United 3-2 at Old Trafford earlier this season. But after a gruelling FA Cup shootout win over Brighton, legs might be heavy — and United arrive rested, having scored seven across their last two matches. With several players back from injury, the Red Devils might sense an opportunity to disrupt Forest’s top-four ambitions.
