Here’s a look at the key matches, stats and odds for matchday five:
Borussia Dortmund vs Manchester City
Group G: Tuesday 25th October, 20:00
Dortmund’s former star man returns to the Signal Iduna Park on Tuesday. Erling Haaland comes up against the club where he scored 86 goals in just 89 matches. He’s fairing even better for his new club Manchester City. The Norwegian international netted twice at the weekend against Brighton to make it an astonishing 22 goals in his first 15 matches for City. Five of those have come in three outings in this season’s Champions League, including the winner in the reverse fixture against Dortmund, and a double against FC Copenhagen on his last European appearance. Pep Guardiola’s men need just a point to confirm top spot of Group G, having already qualified for the Last 16.
Bundesliga side Dortmund have started indifferently in the league, but a 5-0 victory over Stuttgart on Saturday, in which England star Jude Bellingham scored twice, will give them a much-needed boost. Bellingham, who scored in the quarter-finals when the two teams met in April 2021, will be key to Dortmund’s chances, and is currently the club’s top scorer this season with six goals. A win on Tuesday would seal their place in the Last 16, as they sit comfortably second in the group, five points clear of Sevilla in third.
At Bet9ja, you can get odds 9.00 for Bellingham to score at any time, which could be worth a punt. Haaland is just 1.65 to score at his old stomping ground and 3.75 to net first. Dortmund could be worth keeping an eye on at 4.90 to win against City, which could be more likely if Guardiola makes expected changes considering his side are already through.
Bet9ja odds (at time of writing): Dortmund win: 4.90, Draw: 4.40, Man City win: 1.64
Barcelona vs Bayern Munich
Group C: Wednesday 26th October, 20:00
Much like the aforementioned Haaland, Robert Lewandowski too will be greeted with a hero’s welcome as he faces his old club. Lewandowski will go down as one of Bayern Munich’s greatest ever goalscorers, with 344 goals in 375 games. He won eight league titles and a Champions League during his time at Bayern. Again, much like Haaland, the Polish superstar has begun life at his new club in fine fashion, netting 17 times in 15 matches. This includes five goals in the Champions League so far. However, Barcelona’s 3-3 draw at home to Inter Milan last time out means they are on the brink of elimination at the Group Stage for the second straight season. They trail Inter by three points with two matches to play, but Inter have a better head-to-head record. Despite winning 4-0 at the weekend and sitting just three points behind Real Madrid in La Liga, Xavi’s men have fallen short in the big matches this season. They were defeated 2-0 by Bayern and 3-1 in the El Clasico derby at Real Madrid.
On the flip side, Bayern are in fantastic form. They are unbeaten in seven, having scored 27 goals in the process. Julian Nagelsmann’s team have turned around a poor start to the season and are now just a point off the top of the Bundesliga table. Four wins in four means they are safely through to the knockout stages of the Champions League, and need just a point in the final two matches to secure top spot.
Goals should be aplenty on Wednesday. A lucrative market is Total Goals (Exact), where four goals to be scored over the 90 minutes is 4.55 and five goals 6.50. For anytime first time goalscorer, Lewandowski is 5.00 and Sadio Mane 8.30 to net first and add to his seven-goal tally so far this season.
Bet9ja odds (at time of writing): Barcelona win: 2.36, Draw: 3.85, Bayern Munich win: 2.78
RB Salzburg vs Chelsea
Group C: Tuesday 25th October, 17:45
Despite being unbeaten in the eight matches in charge of Chelsea so far, Tuesday’s trip represents another challenge for Graham Potter. His reign started as these two played out a 1-1 draw last month, but recent draws against Manchester United and Brentford slightly dents what was a great start following back-to-back wins against AC Milan. Currently three points above Milan with two to play, a win would seal a Last 16 place, while a draw would keep it well in Chelsea’s hands. Austrian league leaders Salzburg haven’t lost yet in this season’s Champions League Group Stage and can qualify themselves if they win on Tuesday. They are 4.60 to do so at Bet9ja, with an away win 1.78 and arguably more likely.
Bet9ja odds (at time of writing): Salzburg win: 4.60, Draw: 3.75, Chelsea win: 1.78
Ajax vs Liverpool
Group A: Wednesday 26th October, 20:00
After wins against Rangers, Manchester City and West Ham, Liverpool suffered a setback with a shock 1-0 defeat to Premier League strugglers Nottingham Forest at the weekend. It’s been a frustratingly inconsistent season so far for Jurgen Klopp’s men. However, the 1-7 thrashing of Rangers in their last Champions League match means they just need a draw at Ajax to progress. There’s always goals when Ajax play, having scored eight and conceded 12 in Group A so far, while in the Eredivisie, they have netted 38 times in just 11 matches. Looking at the goal markets at Bet9ja, a Liverpool win combined with Over 3.5 goals is 3.70 and could be worth a shout. A high scoring draw Over 3.5 goals is 9.10 meanwhile.
Bet9ja odds (at time of writing): Ajax win: 3.90, Draw: 4.05, Liverpool win: 1.86
