The first weekend back of English Premier League action lived up to expectations, with many sides continuing where they left off before the international break.
Manchester United were blown away at Old Trafford by Brighton and two late goals in North London for Tottenham Hotspur saw them claw victory from the jaws of defeat against Sheffield United.
Here are the top 5 standout goals of the weekend.
Leandro Trossard vs Everton
Replacing the injured Gabriel Martinelli in the first half of Arsenal’s fixture at Goodison Park, Leandro Trossard had a point to prove and did so in magnificent style.
Arsenal worked a short corner well – Bukayo Saka found space inside the box to get on the end of Martin Odegaard’s clever pass before showing great vision to provide a pinpoint cutback to Trossard, who side-footed a perfect first time finish off the post and in to leave Jordan Pickford motionless and The Gunners with all three points.
Jhon Duran vs Crystal Palace
Aston Villa’s new signing Jhon Duran has shown glimpses of talent in the opening weeks of the season, and his stunning goal against Crystal Palace is a promising sign for the rest of the season.
Taking down Lucas Digne’s cross on his chest, the Colombian turned and hammered a superb strike into the roof of the net in Didier Drogba-esque fashion to put Villa in front.
Jeremy Doku vs West Ham United
Belgian winger Jeremy Doku has made an instant impression at Manchester City, with his trademark runs down the left becoming a popular feature of City’s game.
He netted his first goal for the club in excellent fashion, cutting inside Vladimir Coufal before curving a perfect finish into the back of the net to put City level.
James Ward-Prowse vs Manchester City
Despite their loss against the champions, West Ham United gave an excellent account of themselves at the London Stadium, with James Ward-Prowse’s superb counter attack the highlight of their day.
Right back Coufal raced down the left after some intricate passing before sending a brilliant cross towards former Southampton man Ward-Prowse, who powered a well-taken diving header past Ederson to put The Hammers one goal up.
Hannibal Mejbri
Manchester United are yet to find form this season and went down 3-1 to Brighton and Hove Albion at Old Trafford, but one positive from the day was youngster Hannibal Mejbri’s powerful drive late on.
Collecting the ball 30 yards from goal, Hannibal took aim and sent a vicious right footed drive into the back of the net to give The Red Devils a consolation goal in what was a disappointing afternoon otherwise.
