SATURDAY 15 AUGUST

EXCELSIOR VS PSV

Excelsior come into this clash with plenty of confidence after opening their Eredivisie campaign with an emphatic 4-0 victory over Cambuur. PSV, meanwhile, were held to a 2-2 draw by Fortuna Sittard in their opening game and will be keen to respond. Despite Excelsior’s impressive start, PSV remain the defending champions and possess considerably more quality and experience.

PSV should have enough attacking quality to overcome an Excelsior side that will be full of confidence. Their dominance in recent meetings, including a 5-1 win earlier in 2026, also gives them an advantage heading into this encounter.

PREDICTION – PSV to win @ 1.60 odds

SEVILLA VS RAYO VALLECANO

Sevilla head into their La Liga opener at home to Rayo Vallecano looking to start the new campaign positively after a mixed pre-season. Rayo, who finished eighth last season and reached the Conference League final, will provide a tough test, but Sevilla has the advantage of playing at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuan. The hosts have also dominated this fixture historically and are unbeaten in their last five meetings with Rayo.

Sevilla’s home advantage and strong head-to-head record make them the safer side to back, although Rayo’s defensive organisation could make this a close encounter. With Sevilla unbeaten in the last five meetings, the hosts should avoid defeat.

PREDICTION – Sevilla to win or draw @ 1.34 odds

SUNDAY 16 AUGUST

FEYENOORD VS G.A. EAGLES

Feyenoord have started the new Eredivisie campaign strongly, beating Sparta Rotterdam 1-0 away from home after winning all five of their pre-season friendlies. Go Ahead Eagles also made an impressive start, thrashing Willem II 4-1, but they now face a much tougher test against one of the league’s strongest sides.

Feyenoord’s home advantage, superior squad quality and excellent record against Go Ahead Eagles make them strong favourites. They have won 12 of the 18 previous meetings, while their recent form suggests they should have enough to secure another victory at De Kuip.

PREDICTION – Feyenoord to win @ 1.40 odds

ARSENAL VS MANCHESTER CITY

Arsenal and Manchester City meet in the Community Shield with both sides coming into the clash having shown plenty of attacking threat during pre-season. Arsenal scored in each of their last six matches, while City have also found the net consistently in their recent fixtures. Their recent meetings have generally been competitive, with four of the last five producing goals at both ends.

With both teams possessing quality in attack but still fine-tuning their defensive set-ups ahead of the new season, this could be an open encounter. Arsenal’s recent defensive issues and City’s attacking quality make goals at both ends a strong possibility.

PREDICTION – Both teams to score @ 1.71 odds

AJAX VS HEERENVEEN

Ajax began the new Eredivisie season with a 2-0 away victory over PEC Zwolle, while Heerenveen also opened their campaign with a win, beating FC Twente 1-0. Both sides therefore arrive with confidence, although their most recent meeting ended goalless in May.

Ajax’s attacking quality and home advantage should make this a more open contest, while Heerenveen have already shown they can contribute going forward. With both teams starting the season positively, the game has the potential to produce several goals.

PREDICTION – Over 2.5 goals @ 1.35 odds

LENS VS PSG

Lens come into this Trophée des Champions after an excellent 2025/26 campaign, finishing second in Ligue 1 and winning their first-ever Coupe de France. PSG, however, arrive as Ligue 1 champions and have already added another trophy this season after beating Aston Villa 2-1 in the UEFA Super Cup.

PSG have the greater squad depth and big-game experience, and despite Lens having home advantage, the Parisians should have enough quality to claim another trophy. They also won both league meetings against Lens last season, both by 2-0 scorelines.

PREDICTION – PSG to win @ 1.78 odds
