Bukayo Saka – Arsenal
Bukayo Saka has been one of the top-performing players in the Premier League over the past few seasons and has been a key part in Arsenal’s rise to the top of the table, spearheading the side to two back-to-back second-place finishes in the Premier League.
This season has seen Saka take arguably his biggest step forward as an individual, recording the highest player rating of any player in the Premier League across the 38-game campaign according to WhoScored.
His 7.67 rating is significantly higher than anyone around him, with Rodri and Michael Olise sitting on 7.62 and 7.61 respectively, with the next highest rated Phil Foden sitting much lower at 7.55.
A large part of Saka’s success this season has been his attacking quality, leading his side’s goalscoring charts with 16 goals in 35 appearances in the league, while he has also picked up a further nine assists, just one less than teammate Martin Odegaard who leads the way for the Gunners.
His goal contributions are not the only reason for him topping the leaderboards though, but his overall performances and output are the main factor in his fantastic season.
He recorded 1,087 passes in the league, ranking in the top nine per cent for any right winger in the league, and created an outstanding 91 chances, ranking in the top three per cent for his position.
His play in possession is arguably his biggest strength, making 49 successful dribbles, having the most touches in the opposition box of any player in his position and winning a huge 69 fouls over the course of the campaign.
Not only are his offensive statistics strong, but his defensive output is a large reason for both his high individual rating and also a large contributing factor to Arsenal’s title push and best defensive record in the Premier League. Saka won 35 tackles across the 38 games, ranking within the top seven per cent, while also winning 207 duels, making 44 blocks and 155 recoveries.
While Saka was unable to lead the Gunners to a first league title in 20 years, the 22-year-old has fast become one of the finest players in English football and proved himself this year as arguably the best performer of any in the league.
