The season is starting across Europe as pre-season games are gradually coming to an end.
The selections for the weekend are below:
Utrecht vs AZ Alkmaar
Utrecht began the post-Ron Jans era with a 2-1 defeat away to Groningen.
AZ made a much more assured start, opening their campaign with a 2-0 home victory over promoted ADO Den Haag.
Saturday should provide a sterner examination, particularly given AZ’s difficulties away from Alkmaar last term. They collected only 21 points from 17 away matches, winning six and losing eight, compared with an Utrecht side who derived almost 62% of their league points from home fixtures.
PREDICTION: GG or Over 2.5 Goals at 1.27 Odds
Gent vs Westerlo
Genk were in a strong position heading into the final 10 minutes against Zulte Waregem last weekend after Rafiu Durosinmi’s debut goal, but two late strikes frustrated them.
Westerlo were no match for title hopefuls Union St. Gilloise in their opening Pro League contest, conceding five times, four goals coming after the break, after taking an early lead through former Coventry man, Norman Bassette.
PREDICTION: Gent to win either halves at 1.31 Odds
Union St. Gilloise vs Zulte Waregem
Union St. Gilloise made no mistake on the opening weekend, hammering Westerlo 5-1 at Het Kuipje thanks to five different goalscorers.
Mick Beale enjoyed the perfect start to the 2026/27 season with his Zulte Waregem side last weekend as late goals from Marley Ake and Serxho Ujka sealed a 2-1 comeback win over Genk.
Saturday’s visitors face a much tougher test at Stade Joseph Marien in gameweek two.
PREDICTION: Union to win at 1.35 Odds
SK Beveren vs Anderlecht
SK Beveren raced into an early lead in their return to the Pro League against Royal Antwerp last weekend thanks to Chris Lokesa’s 29th-minute opener, but a Michael Frey brace in the second 45 denied Tim Bakens’ men a fairytale result.
Anderlecht overcame an opening weekend scare against a 10-man La Louviere side in gameweek one as Adriano Bertaccini’s stoppage-time strike sealed a 2-1 comeback win at Lotto Park.
PREDICTION: Anderlecht to win either halves at 1.55 Odds
La Louviere vs Gent
La Louviere took a surprise lead against a strong Anderlecht side during their opening Pro League fixture last weekend, but a second-half equaliser, followed by a stoppage-time Adriano Bertaccini strike, condemned them to a defeat.
Gent made no mistake against Mechelen in their Pro League opener last weekend, scoring twice before the half-time break to earn a comfortable home win.
PREDICTION: Gent to win either halves at 1.65 Odds
Braga vs Gil Vicente
Braga were heading for a narrow win but deserved opening weekend victory over Moreirense last weekend until Joao Veloso popped up with a 91st-minute equaliser.
Nothing but three points will do for Carlos Vicens as the hosts look to avoid losing early ground at the top end of the table.
Hector Hernandez was the hero for Gil Vicente in gameweek one as his 87th-minute penalty proved enough to see off Rio Ave for three points at Estádio Cidade de Barcelos.
PREDICTION: Braga to win either halves at 1.37 Odds
OH Leuren vs Club Brugge
OH Leuven battled hard after going down to 10 men in the 30th minute last weekend, even drawing back on level terms against Charleroi but after two late goals, Timmy Simons’ men were beaten 3-1.
Club Brugge kicked off their title defence in style in gameweek one, opening their account in the 30th minute through Hugo Vetlesen before adding two more goals in the second half to see off Kortrijk.
PREDICTION: Club Brugge to win either halves at 1.18 Odds
