Victor Osimhen has been linked with some of the Premier League’s biggest clubs for years, but a move to England has never materialised.
Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea have all been linked with the Super Eagles striker at various points, despite Osimhen establishing himself as one of Europe’s most prolific forwards.
Now, Premier League legend Andy Cole has offered an explanation for why a deal may have proved more complicated than it appears.
Cole Backs Osimhen to Shine in Premier League
Osimhen famously scored 31 goals as Napoli won Serie A in 2022/23 and has continued to find the net since moving to Galatasaray, scoring 65 times in 78 appearances.
Cole has little doubt about whether the Nigerian has the ability to succeed in English football.
“He does. He scores goals. He scored goals in Italy and he’s scoring goals in Turkey as well,”
However, the former Manchester United striker believes there can be much more behind a transfer than simply agreeing a fee and wages.
“But, you know, it depends. There are many different factors in signing a player from a respective country. It’s not all about just the salary or the transfer fee.
“There could be many different things that go on.
“If he does come to the Premier League, which I think he will be very good at, you never know who he’ll go to.”
Could Osimhen Still Move to England?
Osimhen’s name has become a regular feature of Premier League transfer windows, and speculation over a future move is unlikely to disappear.
Manchester United have frequently been linked with the 27-year-old, although they have since added Benjamin Sesko as their main centre-forward. Arsenal also showed interest over the summer, while Barcelona have been linked with Osimhen as they search for a long-term option up front.
For now, Osimhen remains a Galatasaray player. But after starring in Italy and Turkey, the question remains whether the Super Eagles striker will eventually get his chance to show what he can do in the Premier League.
