Bradford City vs Newcastle United U21 – BTTS
Newcastle beat York 3-1 in their last EFL Trophy outing. Bradford also have a history of entertaining matches against academy opposition, with their recent meetings with U21 sides producing scorelines including 5-1, 3-1, 2-2 and 4-1.
Burton Albion vs Nottingham Forest U21 – BTTS
This is one of the slightly riskier selections in our acca, but Forest’s league matches have produced 14 goals in four games this season. We’re backing that trend to carry into the Trophy.
Barnsley vs Leeds United U21 – BTTS
One of our strongest picks. Leeds’ three EFL Trophy games last season produced 14 goals, while their opening four league matches this campaign have seen a massive 20 goals.
Rochdale vs Liverpool U21 – BTTS
Liverpool’s Trophy matches were not quite as explosive last season, with two of three finishing under 2.5 goals. However, their four league fixtures this season have still produced 12 goals, so we’re backing both teams to find a way through.
Leicester City vs Fulham U21 – BTTS
Fulham’s youngsters have been involved in 21 goals across only four league matches this season. If Leicester contribute at home, this could quickly turn into another high-scoring academy contest.
Luton Town vs Ipswich Town U21 – BTTS
Ipswich U21 are making their first appearance in the EFL Trophy, but there have been 16 goals across their opening three league games. That attacking start makes BTTS worth including despite their lack of history in the competition.
Plymouth Argyle vs Crystal Palace U21 – BTTS
Palace were one of the competition’s most entertaining academy teams last season, with 20 goals across their four Trophy fixtures. They have already beaten Swindon 2-1 in this season’s competition, so we’re backing another game where both sides score.
Bromley vs Brentford U21 – BTTS
Brentford are newcomers to the EFL Trophy this season following their move to Category One academy status. Their opening four league matches have produced 18 goals, while Bromley’s recent games against U21 opposition have finished 3-3 and 3-2.
