Europe’s most prestigious club competition makes its long-awaited return this week, ushering in a brand new season of drama, excitement and unforgettable moments. The UEFA Champions League campaign gets underway today with six fixtures that mark the beginning of an action-packed week featuring 18 matchday one clashes in the league phase.
Athletic Bilbao vs Arsenal
Athletic Bilbao will host Arsenal in the opening match of the entire week, and while the hosts will be hoping to make use of their home advantage to get their Champions League campaign off to a winning start, the Gunners are huge favourites to win.
Athletic Bilbao and Arsenal matched up just prior to the beginning of the competitive 2025/26 season, and the Gunners secured a comfortable 3-0 victory, dominating the match with 60% possession and taking 10 shots to Bilbao’s two.
While Athletic Bilbao have made a strong start to the new season, with three wins and one loss, Arsenal are in similarly strong form, with three wins and one defeat, and given their control over this fixture last month, we expect the Gunners to win this one.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Villarreal
Richarlison has made a superb start to the season under new manager Thomas Frank, with the Brazilian scoring two and assisting one in Tottenham’s first three matches of the campaign – with the striker starting in all three games.
Richarlison was dropped to the bench for the clash with West Ham United after making a long trip to return from Brazilian international duty, and after a poor performance from replacement striker Mathys Tel, Richarlison is expected to return to the starting team for this fixture and is good value to continue his impressive start to the season.

Juventus vs Borussia Dortmund
Serhou Guirassy is another striker that has enjoyed a fantastic start to the 2025/26 campaign, with the forward already netting four times in three Bundesliga appearances, as well as one goal in one DFB Pokal game.
The forward has consistently proven his goalscoring ability in recent seasons, scoring 34 and 30 goals across all competitions in the last two campaigns, while he also proved his Champions League pedigree last year, scoring 13 times in 14 Champions League matches.
As Juventus demonstrated their often vulnerable defence in the thrilling 4-3 win over Inter Milan last time out, we believe Guirassy will get opportunities in this one, and given the striker’s brilliant ability in front of goal, we expect him to get on the scoresheet here.

Real Madrid vs Marseille
Xabi Alonso could not have asked for a stronger start to his Real Madrid managerial career, with the new Los Blancos boss leading the team to four wins from four La Liga matches, leaving them top of the standings as the only team with a flawless record.
With the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Arda Guler, Vinicius Junior, Dean Huijsen and several others all producing stellar performances already this campaign, Real Madrid will be extremely confident of continuing their winning streak when they take on Marseille in their Champions League opener.
Marseille have shown their quality with two significant wins in Ligue 1, beating Paris FC 5-2 and Lorient 4-0, but they have been beaten by both Rennes and Lyon, and given Real Madrid’s far superior quality, expect Los Blancos to come away with three points.
