Here’s a look at the key matches, stats, odds and tips for matchday six:
Liverpool vs Napoli
Group A: Tuesday 1 November, 21:00
There will be a feeling of familiarity when these two teams take to the Anfield pitch on Tuesday, as Liverpool face Napoli in the battle for first place in Group A.
This is the third time in five seasons these two clubs have been drawn together in the Champions League group stage, and the fixture has not provided much joy for Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool, as they have won just once in the previous five meetings, which include a 4-1 defeat in Naples in September.
While both teams have since qualified for the Last 16, the severity of that September loss means Liverpool will have to win by at least four goals to overtake Napoli at the top of the group and give themselves a seeding for the Last 16 draw.
The Champions League has at least provided some respite in what has been a difficult season for the Reds. They are currently ninth in the Premier League having won only four of their opening 12 games and after losing the last two to Nottingham Forest and Leeds respectively. They have however won their last four Champions League games, including comfortable victories away to Rangers (1-7) and Ajax (0-3) respectively.
This is not a good time for Liverpool to be facing Luciano Spalletti’s Napoli, who are on a staggering run of 13 straight wins in all competitions. Super Eagles forward Victor Osimhen has been particularly impressive, scoring eight goals from as many starts this season, while 21-year-old prospect Khvicha Kvaratskhelia has also notched up eight goals.
Napoli have made light work of the group so far, winning all five games and scoring 20 goals in the process. They also sit top of Serie A after an unbeaten start with ten wins and two draws, and 30 goals scored.
Given the home team’s need to score several goals and Napoli’s current form, it is worth looking at odds of 1.46 on over 2.5 goals with Bet9ja, or even 2.12 on over 3.5 goals. Liverpool securing the four-goal win they need is priced at 12.50.
Bet9ja odds (at time of writing): Liverpool win: 1.84, Draw: 4.15, Napoli win: 3.90
Marseille vs Tottenham
Group D: Tuesday 1st November, 21:00
Group D is arguably the group to follow on Tuesday. Tottenham currently lead the group on eight points, with Sporting Lisbon and Eintracht Frankfurt joint second on seven points each and Marseille bottom on six points. If the French side manage to defeat Spurs, they will end up overtaking the Premier League club, demonstrating how anything can happen on the final matchday.
Harry Kane’s last-minute goal being ruled out by VAR in last week’s 1-1 draw with Sporting Lisbon means Antonio Conte’s men face a nervy trip to the Stade Vélodrome. Spurs are yet to taste an away victory in the Champions League so far this season, losing 2-0 in Lisbon and playing out a goalless draw in Frankfurt, but Saturday’s fantastic comeback at Bournemouth will give them confidence going into the match against Marseille. Conte’s side fought back from 2-0 down to win 2-3, with Rodrigo Bentancur scoring a stoppage-time winner.
Kane will once again be key; having scored 11 goals so far this season, although just one has come in the Champions League. Son Heung-min has two in this season’s campaign, and so too does Richarlison, although the Brazilian is a doubt for this one.
Marseille were pipped 2-1 at Frankfurt last week; a blow to their qualification chances after back-to-back wins. It’s been a decade since Marseille were in the knock-out phase of the Champions League, while Igor Tudor’s men are currently four matches without victory in all competitions. They will be counting on several former Arsenal players to attempt to put an end to that drought. Both Alexis Sanchez and Matteo Guendouzi have scored twice in this season’s Champions League.
You can get odds of 5.70 for Kane to be first goalscorer at Bet9ja, or 2.65 to score at any time. Sanchez is 3.50 to net at any time and haunt Arsenal’s rivals. A draw at 3.50 could be worth backing in what promises to be a tetchy affair, but a result that would see Spurs qualify.
Bet9ja odds (at time of writing): Marseille win: 2.92, Draw: 3.50, Tottenham win: 2.40
Real Madrid vs Celtic
Group F: Wednesday 2nd November, 18:45
If RB Leipzig beat Shakhtar Donetsk in the group’s other game, Real Madrid will need to win against Celtic to seal Group F. Los Blancos fell to a disappointing 3-2 defeat to Leipzig last week, despite goals from Vinícius Júnior and Rodrygo. They were then held 1-1 by Girona on Sunday. With Júnior, Federico Valverde, Rodrygo and Karim Benzema having all netted five or more goals so far this season, there’s no shortage of sources to help Madrid get back to winning ways.
Celtic are rock bottom with two points and will finish fourth no matter the result on Wednesday. Despite conceding 10 goals in five matches, the Scottish giants are yet to be totally blown away in this season’s campaign, with the 0-3 loss to Madrid in September their heaviest defeat to date.
Expect a comfortable Madrid win for this one, with Bet9ja bringing a Real Madrid win & over 3.5 goals at 1.99, and a Real Madrid win & over 4.5 goals at 2.94.
Bet9ja odds (at time of writing): Real Madrid win: 1.21, Draw: 6.90, Celtic win: 13.25
Manchester City vs Sevilla
Group G: Wednesday 2 November, 21:00
City have already sealed top spot in the group and have won their last 13 home games in all competitions. They have racked up 34 goals from just eight home games this season, and even though Pep Guardiola may rest players, it is difficult to see his team settling for an easy night against a Sevilla team guaranteed to finish third and enter the Europa League.
Jorge Sampaoli’s visitors are having a turbulent season, lying third from bottom in La Liga and coming into this game on the back of a 0-1 home loss to Rayo Vallecano on Saturday.
Manchester City to win and over 3.5 goals is priced at 2.14 with Bet9ja.
Bet9ja odds (at time of writing): Manchester City win: 1.23, Draw: 6.60, Sevilla win: 12.25
