Many of Europe’s top clubs have been splashing the cash this summer, with a host of teams looking to improve gaps in their team and replace stars who have moved elsewhere.
With Saudi Arabian clubs now possessing massive spending power in the transfer market, many of Europe’s traditionally richer teams have been forced to compete financially with teams from the Middle East.
Here are the 5 biggest transfers from this window so far.
5. Mason Mount – Chelsea to Manchester United, £60m
After falling out of favour at Chelsea, Mason Mount made the move north to Manchester United for a fee of £60m. Mount is experienced in a number of midfield and attacking positions, and will certainly give Erik Ten Hag the creative spark that United missed at points last season. The 24 year old has taken the legendary number 7 shirt, previously worn by Cristiano Ronaldo, David Beckham and Eric Cantona.
4. Dominik Szoboszlai – RB Leipzig to Liverpool, £60m
Rated across Europe for a number of seasons, Hungarian midfielder Szoboszlai is an excellent signing for Liverpool. With the Reds losing captain Jordan Henderson and experienced veteran James Milner, the 22 year old will have to make an instant impact at Anfield if Jurgen Klopp’s side are to make an improvement on their disappointing showing from last season.
3. Kai Havertz – Chelsea to Arsenal, £65m
Kai Havertz was another young talent to leave Chelsea this summer, moving across London to rivals Arsenal. Havertz is a versatile player and can play a number of positions, but it looks like Mikel Arteta is keen on playing him in the central midfield role vacated by Granit Xhaka, who moved to Bayer Leverkusen after seven years in London.
2. Jude Bellingham – Borussia Dortmund to Real Madrid, £88.5m
Despite only turning 20 years old last month, Jude Bellingham is rated across the world as one of the very best midfielders around. With Toni Kroos and Luka Modric coming towards the ends of their Real Madrid careers, Carlo Ancelotti has been keen to bring fresh faces into the Madrid squad. Bellingham will likely prove a good fit alongside Eduardo Camavinga and Aurelien Tchouameni in the years to come.
1. Declan Rice – West Ham United to Arsenal, £105m
After a long transfer saga, Mikel Arteta finally managed to get his main target, smashing Arsenal’s transfer record in the process. After captaining West Ham to Europa Conference League glory, Rice is a proven leader with a strong all-round game- something that Arsenal fans will be excited to see grace The Emirates Stadium
