As one of Africa’s top forwards in his prime, we saw it appropriate to speak to Bet9ja Ambassador Victor Ikpeba about who his favourite strikers in world football are to watch at this current point in time.
Among some classic selections there are some interesting shouts that you might not expect – make sure to let us know who your picks would be here!
Hi Victor, who are your favourite strikers to watch at the moment?
VI: I think right now we are going through a period in football where a lot of the old guard is changing and we’re seeing some players appear right at the top of the big leagues who we aren’t familiar with. For example, just look at the Bundesliga where new faces like Boniface and Guirassy are playing so well!
Despite Napoli not playing at the same level as last season, Victor Osimhen is proving that last season wasn’t just a flash in the pan. However, it is Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez who is leading the way in Italy so far this season. He’s scored 11 goals in 10 games and is in excellent form.
Harry Kane is loving life in Germany at Bayern Munich and continues to add more and more to his game. His goal from halfway against Darmstadt was a ridiculous piece of skill in an 8-0 win, and I think he enjoys playing in a system with players like Sané, Coman, Gnabry and Musiala who all have lots of pace that he can find in space with the ball.
Salah and Haaland are the two best forwards in the English Premier League for me – Haaland is a goal machine regardless of how he is playing and Salah has been consistently producing for over six years now. I wouldn’t say that either of them are the most exciting players to watch in the world but in most big games across the course of the season they will provide goals or assists and end up affecting the result, which is what you need to do as a forward.
I think that Kylian Mbappé has been the best player in the world for a few years now, he just hasn’t had the success in Europe or on an international level to come home with the Ballon D’Or. He has absolutely everything you could want from a forward – pace, trickery, finishing and creativity, and will almost certainly win the Ballon D’Or in the next couple of years.
