Who Will Be The Next Super Eagles Manager?

The Super Eagles are on the hunt for a new manager, and we take a closer look at three of the possible options who could be appointed imminently.

Finidi George resigned from his role as Nigeria head coach last week, following the defeat to Benin Republic, which was a major blow to their chances of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup.

It is likely that the Super Eagles will appoint a new head coach sooner rather than later, as they find themselves in a difficult situation on their quest for World Cup qualification.

Marc Brys

Marc Brys is currently manager of Cameroon national team, and is reportedly on the short list of managers who could become the next Nigerian boss, as they search for 2026 World Cup qualification.

The Belgian coach has had constant disagreement with Cameroon’s FA chief Samuel Eto’o, which led to his dismissal last month, but he was then reinstated as boss a few days later.

The ongoing negativity in the camp at Cameroon suggest that Brys will not last long, so he could be interested in a change of scenery and take over as Super Eagles boss.

Toni Conceicao

Former Braga coach Toni Conceicao has also been considered as a potential suitor for the Super Eagles job, after being without a job for the past two years.

Conceicao had a successful spell as Cameroon coach, where he led them to the semi-final of AFCON 2021 and topped their 2022 World Cup qualifying group, and has impressed while managing on the international stage.

The Super Eagles could be keen on getting Conceicao in the door, as it would be a simple one to get over the line due to him being out of work so they would not have to lure him away from a current role.

Steve Cooper

Steve Cooper has been without a job since his departure from Nottingham Forest earlier this year and is one of the names being linked to the Super Eagles manager role.

The former Forest boss has experience at international level in the England youth set-up, where he won the U-17 World Cup in 2017 – he might be keen to take the next step and take the role of a senior national team.

Cooper is familiar with two Nigerian players, Taiwo Awoniyi and Ola Aina from his time at Forest, and had a great relationship with the duo where he certainly got the best out of them.
