SATURDAY 29 AUGUST

LIVERPOOL VS NOTTINGHAM FOREST

Liverpool come into this fixture after a 2-2 draw away to Newcastle United, showing plenty of attacking threat but also some vulnerability at the back. Playing at Anfield should give them confidence, and with their quality in the final third, Liverpool are likely to create several chances.

Nottingham Forest had a difficult start, losing their opening league game to Leeds United before suffering another defeat to the same opponents in the Carabao Cup. However, Forest have previously shown they can hurt Liverpool, including a 3-0 win at Anfield last season. With Liverpool’s defensive vulnerability and Forest’s counter-attacking threat, both sides have a good chance of finding the net.

PREDICTION – Both teams to score @ 1.67 odds

TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR VS NEWCASTLE UNITED

Tottenham Hotspur will be looking to bounce back after a disappointing 3-0 defeat to Brentford on the opening weekend. Roberto De Zerbi’s side responded with a convincing 5-1 Carabao Cup win over Charlton, and with new attacking additions such as Savinho and Omar Marmoush, Spurs should carry plenty of threat as they advance

Newcastle United also showed their attacking quality in a 2-2 draw against Liverpool, twice taking the lead before conceding a late equaliser. The Magpies have won three of their last four league visits to Tottenham, while this fixture has remarkably never ended 0-0 in 62 Premier League meetings. With both teams possessing dangerous attackers but still having defensive concerns, another open and entertaining game is expected.

PREDICTION – Over 2.5 goals @ 1.62 odds

BORUSSIA DORTMUND VS HAMBURG

Borussia Dortmund come into this fixture looking to bounce back from their 2-1 defeat to Bayern Munich in the German Super Cup. Their recent matches have produced plenty of goals, including a 3-2 win over Arsenal and a 2-2 draw against Roma, showing the attacking quality they possess.

Hamburg have also been involved in high-scoring games, with their last six matches averaging three goals per game. Dortmund’s most recent meeting with Hamburg ended 3-2, while their attacking strength at Signal Iduna Park should create plenty of chances. This has all the ingredients for another entertaining encounter.

PREDICTION – Over 2.5 goals @ 1.46 odds

SUNDAY 30 AUGUST

UTRECHT VS PSV

FC Utrecht have had a difficult start to the new Eredivisie campaign, taking just one point from their opening three matches. They have struggled defensively and currently sit near the bottom of the table, making this a tough challenge against the reigning champions.

PSV, meanwhile, have started the season strongly and remain unbeaten after three league games, scoring three goals per game on average. They have also won three of the last four meetings between these sides, giving them a strong psychological advantage. With PSV possessing greater quality and attacking firepower, they should be able to take all three points at Stadion Galgenwaard.

PREDICTION – PSV to win @ 1.66 odds

CHELSEA VS BRIGHTON

Chelsea made a strong start under Xabi Alonso, beating Fulham 3-2 in their opening Premier League match. Their attacking play looked promising, with Cole Palmer and João Pedro among the players making an impact, although there were still some defensive concerns. Chelsea’s new approach under Alonso should make them an entertaining side to watch.

Brighton also began their campaign impressively, thrashing Aston Villa 4-0, with all four goals coming in the opening 31 minutes. The Seagulls have been in excellent scoring form, while the last five meetings between these sides have all produced over 2.5 goals. With both teams showing plenty of attacking quality, another goal-filled encounter is expected at Stamford Bridge.

MANCHESTER UNITED VS IPSWICH

Manchester United will be looking to respond after a disappointing 2-0 defeat away to newly promoted Hull City on the opening weekend. Michael Carrick’s side dominated possession and created chances but failed to find the net, making the return to Old Trafford an important opportunity to put things right. With the pressure already building, United should be determined to produce a much stronger performance in front of their home supporters.

Ipswich Town, meanwhile, made an encouraging return to the Premier League with a 2-1 victory over Sunderland. Gary O’Neil’s side showed character to secure all three points, but facing Manchester United at Old Trafford will be a significantly tougher challenge. United have the superior squad and home advantage, and with a response expected after their opening-day defeat, they should have enough quality to claim their first win of the season.

CAGLIARI VS INTER MILAN

Cagliari made a positive start to the new Serie A campaign with a narrow 1-0 victory over Parma, giving them confidence ahead of this difficult home fixture. However, they now face the reigning champions and will need a much stronger defensive performance to contain Inter’s attacking quality.

Inter Milan impressively began their title defence, cruising to a 4-1 victory over Monza. The Nerazzurri have also dominated this fixture in recent years, and their quality, experience and current momentum make them strong favourites. With Inter looking to maintain their winning start, they should have enough to secure another three points in Sardinia.
