Victor Ikpeba’s UEFA Champions League Semi Final preview: Borussia Dortmund vs PSG

Two European heavy hitters face off in the UEFA Champions League Semi-Finals today, with French champions Paris Saint Germain taking on former winners Borussia Dortmund at Signal Iduna Park.

The winner of this tie will face a tough test to win Europe’s most famous trophy this season – there was a lot made in the quarter-final stage of the tournament of PSG and Dortmund had an easier route to the finals than Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, but their free-scoring performances in the quarter finals will have any side wary of their quality going forward.

We spoke to Bet9ja Ambassador Victor Ikpeba ahead of this crunch tie at Signal Iduna Park for his thoughts on the game.

Never doubt the power of the Yellow Wall!

Going into this match it would be easy to predict a PSG win due to all of their firepower up front, with the likes of Kylian Mbappé and Ousmane Dembélé starring as of late for the Parisians, but it will not be so simple in my opinion.

I played for Borussia Dortmund for two years and know how much of a difference that their home advantage makes. It feels like you’re in a cauldron, with every Dortmund action cheered – this is something that gives you an extra boost as a player and makes you feel like you can outrun and outwork anyone in front of you.

PSG can be got at defensively!

We saw in their previous fixture that PSG are a side who are electric going forward – Mbappé is probably the best player in the world, and there are plenty of players behind him to facilitate his quality.

However, there was a point in their tie against Barcelona when they looked down and out before Araujo’s red card. They leave a lot of space defensively – I think that Dortmund will be able to capitalise on this at some point in this leg.
