SATURDAY 12 SEPTEMBER
ASTON VILLA VS NOTTINGHAM FOREST
Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest both head into this clash still searching for their first Premier League win of the season. Villa have struggled badly in front of goal, failing to score in their opening three league games, although their confidence received a boost after Tuesday’s 3–2 Champions League victory over Club Brugge. Forest, meanwhile, have drawn their last two league matches, including a 2–2 draw at Liverpool, before being held 0–0 by Tottenham.
Villa have dominated this fixture at home, winning their last six Premier League meetings with Forest at Villa Park. However, Forest have shown they can find goals against stronger opposition, while Villa’s attacking players will be looking to carry their Champions League momentum into the league. With both sides needing a result and possessing enough attacking quality to cause problems, it would make for an interesting game with goals.

CHELSEA VS HULL CITY
Chelsea head into this fixture with plenty of confidence after a strong start to the season and an impressive 6–1 victory over Leeds in the Carabao Cup. The Blues have shown good attacking quality, with their forwards creating plenty of chances and finding the net regularly. Hull City, meanwhile, have also started the season positively and will be hoping to make life difficult for Chelsea.
Historically, Chelsea had the upper hand in this fixture, winning most of their recent meetings with Hull. However, Hull have enough attacking threat to contribute to an entertaining contest, especially if Chelsea’s high-tempo approach leaves spaces at the back. With Chelsea’s firepower and the potential for Hull to play their part, this should be a high-scoring encounter.

LIVERPOOL VS FULHAM
Liverpool have made an unbeaten start to the Premier League season, drawing 2–2 with Newcastle and Nottingham Forest before recording their first victory with a 2–0 win away to Ipswich Town. Fulham, on the other hand, have had a difficult opening, losing all three of their league matches against Chelsea, Sunderland and Crystal Palace while conceding seven goals.
Liverpool will be confident heading into this meeting at Anfield, especially after their recent improvement in front of goal. Fulham have shown some attacking threat, scoring four goals in their opening three league games, but their defensive problems could make things difficult against a Liverpool side with plenty of attacking quality. With both teams capable of contributing to an open game, this has the ingredients for an entertaining contest.

ATHLETIC BILBAO VS ELCHE
Athletic Bilbao recovered strongly after a difficult opening to the season. They lost their first two league games against Barcelona and Sevilla, but responded with consecutive 2–0 and 3–0 victories over Celta Vigo and Atlético Madrid. They now sit sixth with six points from four matches, while Elche have managed just one point from their opening four games and have already conceded 12 goals.
The visitors will have a difficult task at San Mamés, where Athletic have historically enjoyed the better of this fixture. Elche have won only twice in 25 previous visits to Bilbao, while Athletic won the most recent meeting 2–1 earlier this year. With the home side gaining confidence and looking increasingly solid defensively, they should be in a strong position to control this contest.

ATALANTA VS CAGLIARI
Atalanta have made a solid start to the new Serie A campaign, winning their opening two matches against Sassuolo and Bologna before suffering a late 2–1 defeat away to Roma. They currently have six points from three games, while Cagliari have also collected six points after beating Parma and Lecce, with their only league defeat coming against Inter.
This should be an interesting contest between two sides that have started the season well. Atalanta will have the advantage of playing at home, where they have won their opening two league games, while Cagliari have shown good defensive organisation and have kept both of their league victories to 1–0. The visitors will look to make the game difficult, but Atalanta’s home form and attacking quality could prove decisive.

NAPOLI VS BOLOGNA
Napoli have endured a difficult start to the 2026/27 campaign, taking three points from their opening three league matches.
